Disturbing Trend: Virgins For Sale

Sex sells, and a virgin will cost you a million bucks. While some of us waited for that sensitive teenage boy to deflower us to the Dave Matthews Band (or, rather, the first 30 seconds of “Crash”), a few more entrepreneurial ladies won’t pop their cherry for less than seven figures.

Natalie Dylan, who recently received her bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies from Sacramento State, went on Howard Stern earlier this month to sell her virginity for a cool mil to pay off her tuition bills. Um, last time we checked, state schools weren’t that out of reach, but we can’t blame the girl for upping her ante. Since Dylan’s sister is one of the working girls at Nevada’s most infamous brothel, and subject of HBO show Cathouse, she worked out a deal with proprietor, Dennis Hof, and her hymen is up for bidding at BunnyRanch.com. But Natalie is picking who will pluck her and all interested parties must first pass her interview process. In addition to deep pockets, the gent must have chemistry with the young businesswoman. “We’ll take bids until I find a suitor I’m happy with,” Natalie concedes. [NY Daily News]

The Top 10 Songs About Losing Your Virginity

For most, the onset of puberty is coupled with an obsession with sex. From that point on, it’s all about the V-Card. How are you gonna lose it? Who will be your lucky swiper? When and where will it happen? My personal experience involved my high school boyfriend’s bed, some candles, and Dave Matthews playing in the background. For others, it’s a tree in the woods, a pool table at a frat party, the bathroom of a pizza parlor. Clearly, the cherry-popping event inspires. In that spirit, we’ve got 10 songs about losing it.

There Will Not Be Blood (For Some Virgins)

Last month, a French judge annulled a couple’s marriage because the woman wasn’t actually a virgin. Perhaps because other women don’t want to have a similar fate, or disappoint their future husbands with bloodless sheets, some are undergoing hymen reconstruction before getting married, spending as much as $5,250 at private clinics in France, or traveling to other countries where it costs as little as $300. (I wouldn’t scrimp on this kind of surgery, people.) Time spoke to one French doctor, Dr. Stephane Saint-Leger, who often performs the surgery because he feels that Muslim women’s physical and psychological well-being can be threatened if they aren’t virgins, and he said that 30 to 40 percent of both original and reconstructed hymens fail to produce “virginity-confirming bleeding” when ruptured by penetration, anyway, so there’s no need to feel inferior if yours doesn’t. K-Swiss Should Keep It Real

Sex sells. But what about purity? A K-Swiss ad campaign features tennis star Anna Kournikova in a white sports bra and a teeny-tiny mini skirt, showing off her midriff like a high school ho. Now that they’ve got your attention with some T&A, what’s the slogan say? “Keep It Pure.” Um, what?! While we’re sure that Anna Kournikova is a lady, when there’s a billboard of her rolling around on her back on the tennis court, chastity doesn’t come to mind. And why should it? We’re not sure why K-Swiss is trying to sell sneakers with abstinence — something that even their cover girl Kournikova, who has been doing the horizontal mambo with Enrique Iglesias for years, doesn’t represent. And everyone knows, like a modern woman, it’s impossible for white sneakers to not get a little dirty. Keep reading »

    Men Want To Marry Virgins

FHM magazine in Australia conducted an online poll of 57,000 men, and 28 percent of them said they hoped to marry a virgin, while 41 percent wanted to marry women who had five sexual partners or fewer. The survey respondents were mostly college-educated, employed men in their late 20s, which makes me wonder, if Australian men between age 30 and 39 have slept with an average of 9.5 women, how can they expect there to be any virgins left? They’re not helping their own cause. Dr. Gail Hawkes, a sexuality expert at the University of New England said, “You would not be surprised if we saw that in 1960, not 2008.” We couldn’t agree more. What Daughters Want To Know About Mothers

Joyce McFadden, a New York City psychoanalyst, who runs a site called Women’s Realities, actively conducts studies where she asks women questions and then let’s them answer in their own words. As you’d expect, we ladies have sex on our minds. So, when prompted with, What do you want to know about your mother but would never ask?, the responses were overwhelmingly about their mother’s sexual history — from how she lost her virginity, to possible abortions, to if she had even ever questioned her sexuality. While the answers to this query may not be child-proof, as a teenager or adult struggling with our own sexuality and love life, this info could be a bit uncomfortable, but useful and potentially validating. Although, just a few days after buttering our moms up with Mother’s Day presents, we still can’t seem to ask. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »

    Reach Out And Touch Someone

Phone sex is a fun way to keep in touch while a loved one is out of the country. But usually when we complain about being raped by long distance charges, we’re only talking about the bill. A family in Tunisia, however, is suing a man they claim took their daughter’s virginity over the phone. While the man never even laid a finger on her, the 20-year-old was heard shrieking, um, erotically and supposedly broke her own hymen — according to her medical examination. Impressive! Even Janeane Garofalo, the star of The Truth About Cats And Dogs’ classic phone sex scene, would be wowed. [UPI] Keep reading »

Link Between Watching Pornography And Having Sex Younger

The internet is bad! Before it came along and opened up the eyes of youngsters everywhere to online porn, little boys had to steal from their fathers’ secret stash of Playboy, or, at the very least, the swimsuit of Sports Illustrated. But a study published in CyberPyschology and Behaviour revealed that men between 12 and 17 who regularly viewed porn had sex at an earlier age and were more likely to initiate oral sex. Women who watched pornography at younger age also lost their virginity earlier. “The internet is having some kind of accelerant effect, influencing and changing behavior,” said Shane Krauss, a psychologist from Castleton State College in Vermont, who performed the survey. “Males are having oral sex and losing their virginity much younger when they are exposed to pornography, sometimes by a good three or four years for oral sex or two years for their virginity.” In short, make sure your kids stay on the Disney website, rather than clicking over to X Tube if you want them to remain chaste longer.
