Sarah Palin Meets A Real Mama Grizzly On “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”

Mama grizzlies stick together. While Sarah Palin films her TLC reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” with Todd, Piper and her niece, McKinley, a real-life mama bear and her cubs emerge from the woods to catch salmon. But then another bear — clearly a Democrat — comes along and mama bear lays a fuzzy smackdown. “I love watching these mama bears,” Sarah says. “What I see in that is what a mom would do, too. Anything and everything, laying down her life for her kids.”

Next on “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”? On a visit to the Wasilla dog pound, Sarah is charmed by an actual pitbull in lipstick. [Mediaite] Keep reading »

Happy Pinktober, I Mean, October!

Pinktober — I mean, October — has been taken over as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a worthy cause that’s opportunistically hijacked to promote everything for 31 days straight. Why, just this morning I received a press release from HerCampus.com about essays that six women wrote about their bras sizes “in honor” of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Sorry, what does an essay about your 36DD tatas have to do with “honoring” breast cancer again? I’m not the only one skeptical of consumer pink-washing during “Pinktober” … Keep reading »

Bristol Palin Dances In A Monkey Suit

Last night’s “Dancing with the Stars” brought a very special surprise. Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas dancing in monkey suits while doing the jive to the theme song from my favorite old TV show, “The Monkees.” See the girl monkey who can’t quite keep up? Yeah, that’s Bristol. I wonder if Sarah Palin watched the performance and felt like she was back in Alaska, watching grizzly bears fight? [Newser] Keep reading »

MovieReshape Turns Celebrity Bean Poles Into Brawny Hunks

Have you ever looked at an actor’s body and thought, I know he or she doesn’t look like that in real life, while watching a movie, TV show or music video? Well, I have, and I’ve always wondered how they did that. Turns out it’s done by using a something called MovieReshape, which enables an editor to track and reshape the human body through technology. Basically, it starts with a 3-D version of the scanned subject. Then, the editor can use the program to reshape the subject’s body: make it taller, make it thinner, make it have bigger boobs. Set it in motion, and you’ve got a digitally transformed “human being.” It’s really fascinating stuff, and it makes you wonder if one day we’ll need actors and actresses at all, or if we’ll end up following the gossip-filled lives of people who only exist in the digital realm. A Video Of Models Falling On The Runway

Sky-high heels and platforms, tight or long garments, and a slick or coated catwalk can all lead to a hazardous runway and painful falls for models. “Fashion Television” compiled this video of models falling. Sure, it may look funny, but imagine if your occupation required you to put your body in this much danger and you’re told to grin (or scowl) and bear it. Not fun. [The Envy] Keep reading »

HRP-4C Robot Dances, Sings, Frightens

Check out HRP-4C, the singing and dancing robot, as she performs with her backup dancers at Digital Content Expo. I can’t believe I missed this show. Personally, I find the divabot, as they are calling her, to be totally horrifying: her (?) shrill singing voice, her giant hands, her sort-of-human/sort-of-robotic dance moves. This might sound weird, but I prefer the living flesh of her dancers. Still, I can certainly understand the savvy behind this kind of new pop star. No mental breakdowns. No late-night head-shaving expeditions. No substance abuse problems. And instead of paying for her penthouse suite, you can leave her in the trunk of your tour bus. I’m curious: Anyone know what she’s singing about? Tell us in the comments. Keep reading »
