“Tiny Furniture” Takes An Honest Look At Post-College Freak-Outs

The netherworld between college and actual adulthood can be one of the most confusing times of life. Not yet fully formed, not truly who you’re going to be, you crawl clumsily through jobs, apartments and relationships. Lena Dunham, the writer and director of the new film “Tiny Furniture,” knows exactly what we’re talking about. She made the coming-of-post-college-age film when she was only a wee 24 and manages to perfectly encapsulate the hysterical blindness of it all. The film resonates with so much uncomfortable truth that comic genius Judd Apatow is now producing her upcoming HBO pilot. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

The Rally To Restore Sanity, Auto-Tuned

This weekend, I hightailed it to Washington, D.C., for “The Daily Show“‘s and “The Colbert Report”‘s Rally To Restore Sanity And/Or Fear. It was basically a big old party with amazing sign watching. (My personal faves read: “I Had a Tea Party with Your Mama” and “Palin/Snooki 2012.” The crowd was—how do I put it?—packed like sardines, so there was no chance of seeing a Jumbotron unless you were at least six feet tall. The best the rest of us could do was listen. And for the listeners, the highlight of the afternoon was for sure Jon Stewart‘s monologue. So we’re glad that Auto-Tune The News didn’t waste any time in remixing that shizzle.

If you were at the rally, share your experience in the comments section. Keep reading »

Shy Ronnie 2: Ronnie & Clyde

This weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” hosted by Jon Hamm, was basically a slam dunk. But my favorite part was the digital short where musical guest Rihanna played opposite Andy Samberg’s “Shy Ronnie” character. Ronnie really needs to exercise that voicebox. Uh-oh, boner alert! Keep reading »

Cats, Cats, Cats And Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

Little known zoological fact: big cats love them some pumpkins. In this video from Big Cat Rescue, in Tampa, FL, all manner of lions and tigers and ocelots and cougars frolic and play with painted Halloween pumpkins and gourds. Big cats, still kitten cute. [BuzzFeed] Keep reading »

What Do You Think Of This Short Film Tavi Story Produced?

Up until recently, fashion blogger Tavi‘s professional work in the fashion industry could be called “gimmicky”—projects that rely on Tavi’s character as a young blogger. Yet lately, the smart fashion enthusiast has chosen to remain behind the scenes of her work. Like in this video she produced in collaboration with Alia Raza and Derek Blasberg and starring Julia Restoin-Roitfeld. We’re not exactly clear on what “story produced” means. The Cut refers to her as the screenwriter, but the clip has no words, so we’re assuming Tavi came up with Roitfeld’s actions, costume ideas, and props. Keep reading »
