Lulu Guinness Creates The First Moving Handbag

Lulu Guinness wanted to make sure her 20th anniversary as a designer was special, so she established the Lulu Guinness Scholarship to help young designers explore a career of accessory design at the London College of Fashion. And she created, with the help of Adam Wright, the first animatronic, or moving, handbag. The birdcage handbag contains a mechanical bird that actually moves and sings, yet is large enough to fit a lipstick and a stash of cash. Wright has also worked with Tim Burton and created the famous animatronic catwalks for designer Hussein Chalayan. The handbag won’t be mass produced, which is kind of a good thing because all that tweet-tweeting would get annoying after a while. But to hear Guinness passionately discuss the making of it in the video above makes me want to see the purse in person. [Dazed Digital]

Quick Vid: Badass Female Mixed Martial Arts Fighter Knocks Out Reporter

Ha! This guy totally got his butt kicked by a girl. In the middle of an interview, this female MMA fighter grabs the reporter dude and puts him in a choke hold. It takes her, like, three seconds to knock him out cold. After the reporter wakes up, he’s all confused and ditzy. Never underestimate the power of a lady. Keep reading »

Lauren Conrad Doesn’t Care Who Knows “The Hills” Is Fake

Lauren Conrad was on “The View” this morning to promote her “novel,” L.A. Candy (we’re going to a “reading” tonight!). The interview was pretty awkward and the ladies spent about, oh, six seconds discussing the book, after they peppered L.C. with questions about Heidi and Spencer. The greatest revelation? You know that little “apology” Spencer delivered to Lauren, over the phone, in order to get her to come to the wedding? Never happened. See the clip above… Keep reading »

Quick Vid: Barack Obama Kills A Fly & PETA Flips Out.

When I watched this, I was pretty impressed with Obama’s fast hands and ninja-like focus. When a fly buzzes around my head there’s usually nothing I can do, but Obama smacked that little sucker dead. PETA, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, however, were not pleased. This crazy organization said they wished he had not killed the bug. They’re sending him a Katcha Bug Humane Bug Catcher, which allows people to trap a bug inside and release it later. Puhleeeze! PETA needs to realize that if they continue to get upset about things like killing flies NO ONE is going to take them seriously. Wait, too late. [AP]

Where Do You Wish To Wake Up Tomorrow?

Where do you wish to wake up tomorrow? That’s the question posed to over 1500 people (and counting) in a fantastic new online video series produced by Crush & Lovely and Delltree. The “Fifty People, One Question” project works like this: the producers stake out a busy area in an urban neighborhood, ask 50 people the same question, film their responses, and then edit them together into a short video segment that gets posted online. The project began in New Orleans, and after such a warm response, moved to New York and is now traveling to cities all over, “trying to capture a little slice of humanity.” The project searched for “nothing more than some fresh answers and found a few dreams instead.” Watch the Brooklyn video above and then answer the question yourself in comments: where do you wish to wake up tomorrow? • Chinese Man Reinvents The (Bicycle) Wheel

Guan Baihua has done something that most thought was unnecessary until now — he’s reinvented the wheel. After dreaming of creating a new wheel for two decades, Guan says he came up with the idea for triangular and pentagonal wheels after he realized a three-sided pencil didn’t make his hand bump up and down when rolled. The weight of his bicycle, which he has been patented already, rests on rolling tracks set above the wheels. Hard to imagine? Watch the video above. [Reuters]

    Best Missed Connection Ever

A few years ago after attending the Pitchfork music festival in Chicago, I went home and wrote up a joke Missed Connection ad that went something like: “You: Cute girl with pigtails, huge sunglasses, lots of necklaces, dirty ballet flats, and an American Apparel t-shirt. Me: Beard, dark-rimmed glasses, Urban Outfitters t-shirt, drinking a PBR. Let’s get coffee (but not at Starbucks). THIS Missed Connections story is way funnier though… Keep reading »

Five “Holy Sh*t!” Gems From The Season Finale Of “Real Housewives”

We start off this, our last episode of “The Real Housewives Of New Jersey,” with a tour of Teresa’s giant house…that’s got nothing in it. Granted, if the house weren’t the size of a Westin Hotel all that furniture she bought would technically work. But, as we all saw, she’s gonna need to go on another spending spree—better start stacking up the hundos! So, yeah, Teresa (wearing, as my boyfriend so helpfully pointed out, shorts that looked more like underwear) decides to throw a “housewarming” — at a restaurant. Basically, it was the excuse the producers needed to do the usual “Housewives” end of season dinner. And wow, these Jersey chick didn’t disappoint on the drama front. Here are the five moments when my jaw-dropped. Literally. Keep reading »

Solution To The Recession: Move In With Your Boyfriend

While our government tries to figure out how to get us out of the recession, the Onion News Network “reports” on an option that could solve our sticky economic sitch: Why don’t couples who live in separate apartments move in together? As one girlfriend supporting this course of action says, “In a recession, it just doesn’t make any sense for two people who say they love each other to pay separate rents.” Meanwhile, the boyfriends fear they’ll lose any last semblance of independence.
