Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” Video Is Out — Featuring Rihanna And Kid Cudi

Britney Spears who? The new music video I care about is Kanye West‘s “All Of The Lights,” a bittersweet love song about a nasty breakup, featuring Kid Cudi and Rihanna. I’m in love with the beginning and the end of the video where all the lyrics are lit up onscreen, but the middle is kinda meh. Kanye on top of a police car? Yawn. And is it just me or does Rihanna look like she’s bored and phoning it in with the sexy come-hither look? In any case, it’s an improvement on Kanye’s violent “Monster” music video with women’s severed heads everywhere. [YouTube] Keep reading »

Do We All Need To Learn How To Date?

Yesterday afternoon, I met up with an old ex-boyfriend for coffee. He’s staunch Catholic who was seriously considering joining the priesthood while we were dating; he has always been a lovely person, albeit more conservative than me. (He also happens to be my token pro-life friend.) I was filling him in on the past few years and months of my life — falling in love, getting dumped, moving out — and how I am growing from it. In the past, I have felt overwhelmed as the caretaker in a relationship, and going forward I would like to be with a stronger, more traditional alpha male type. I used to be a more casual hang-out-and-hook-up-er before; now I would like to date with the intention of a serious relationship.

He suggested I check out Kerry Cronin. Kerry Cronin is a professor at Boston College and although she runs a philosophy institute there, she is most well-known for an assignment in one of her classes called the dating assignment. The rules of the dating assignment are as follows: Everyone — male or female — must ask someone else out on a date. They must do it in person or over the phone, but not via text message or email. They have to pay for the date, they have to keep it to only 90 minutes, and the only physical contact at the end of the date can be a brief hug.

You can check out Kerry Cronin’s rules of the first date (or “level one” dating) in the video above and videos on how to transition to “level two” dating and “level three” dating after the jump. Keep reading »

Tyra Banks Impersonates The Stereotypical “ANTM” Hopefuls

Every year on “America’s Next Top Model,” Tyra Banks inevitably has the contestants do an acting challenge where she trots out her “acting coach.” In this cycle 16 promo, Tyra proves that she actually can sort of act, and has decent comedic timing, as she mocks some of the most common types who appear at “ANTM” casting—the squealing girly girl, the goth who doesn’t want to be there, the girl who’s “not here to make friends.” Best line: “I will do anything, anything, anything to be America’s Next Top Model. Except cut my hair.” True dat. Keep reading »

This Week In Terribleness: Woman Dies In Cubicle

Los Angeles woman, 51-year-old Rebecca Wells, died in her cubicle at work two Fridays ago. All of her co-workers left for the weekend without saying goodbye. “She was always working. Always working,” a co-worker said. It took an entire day before her body was discovered slumped over her desk at the Los Angeles County Department of Internal Services where she was an auditor. The cause of death is still unknown. I’m not trying to bring you all down. This is so depressing, I know. Think of this as motivation to quit your job if you hate it. Nobody deserves to die in their cubicle, nobody. [NY Daily News] Keep reading »

Uh, There’s An Anna Nicole Smith Opera

Described as a cross between “comedy” and “heart-wrenching horror,” a new opera, “Anna Nicole,” opened in London last night. It’s about Anna Nicole Smith exploring her choices as a single mother until she runs out of options. With lyrics like “I want to blow you all” and “It’s the sound of a Jimmy Choo shoe on a red carpet” how could it not be a crowd pleaser? “Raunchy,” “convincing,” and “absolutely incredible” were some of the adjectives used by audience members to describe their “Anna Nicole” experience. How do I get tickets? [The Hairpin] Keep reading »

Christina Aguilera Inspires Young Fans Everywhere

See! Christina Aguilera still has fans (even if they are under 13). And some of them just happened to have been inspired by “Burlesque.” Like this little guy who does a spirited performance of “Express.” He picked up some moves that are going to be very helpful to him in the future. Maybe not the demographic Xtina was going for. But still … a fan’s a fan. [Just Jared] Keep reading »
