A Pillow For Lonely And Depressed People

If I were in the business of selling pillows that mold, adjust, and even “breathe” in tune with the person cuddling them, I think I would go for an upbeat message. “Having a pillow that is practically lifelike in its response is awesome and neato! Go out and get one and your life will instantly ROCK!” I would do this because it’s likely that anyone who would buy a pillow that has real doll-like robotic characteristics is probably a sad and lonely human being, and I would want them to feel good about their purchase. (Keep in mind, I am writing this from the perspective of an evil business person, not a compassionate human being.) However, the designer behind the Funktiontide pillow clearly feels the opposite. It’s OK to laugh because she got up, walked away, and posted the video on the internet.

Whoopi Goldberg: “The Reason Black Women Want Straight Hair Is Because It’s Manageable”

Today on “The View,” the ladies discussed “Good Hair,” a documentary by Chris Rock. Whoopi Goldberg made the startling revelation that black women don’t straighten their hair because they want to be white, but because they want manageable hair. “It’s less about the larger culture and more about ‘I don’t want to fuss with my hair,” she said. But that’s only half the story. Nowadays, we realize that beauty can come in different forms, but we can’t ignore the beauty ideals that are presented to us on a daily basis in magazines, TV, and the web. Silky, non-coarse hair is the standard. Whoopi alludes to this but ultimately skirts over it when she says that in beauty school she was taught to do everyone’s hair but black people’s. Director Of “My Nappy Roots” Sues Chris Rock Over “Good Hair”

Chris Rock‘s “Good Hair” hasn’t even come out yet, and he’s already being sued. Filmmaker Regina Kimbell filed the suit, claiming that the flick infringes on the copyright for her award-winning documentary, “My Nappy Roots: A Journey Through Black Hair-itage,” which she maybe screened for Chris Rock two years ago. The lawsuit claims that there are major similarities between the two films, including the inspiration (their daughters) and the interviews with medical pros, celebs and comedians. Plus, both filmmakers go to hair relaxer manufacturing plants and touch on India’s involvement in providing hair for weaves. Even the trailers for both films are pretty similar—just compare the “My Nappy Roots” preview above to the “Good Hair” one after the jump. [MSNBC] Keep reading »

Micro-Piglets: The Cutest Pet, Ever

These adorable little micro-piglets are bred to stay as tiny as possible for their entire lives. They are the newest pet of choice in England because they’re insanely cute, very affectionate, and as low-maintenance as cats. I want 20 of them. In my one-bedroom apartment. And no, I won’t name them all Wilbur. [CNN] Keep reading »

Dude Pops His Booty Better Than Beyonce

I’m at a loss for words and am kind of jealous of this guy. He must be able to dislocate his butt or something because most women can’t move like that. Keep reading »

Adult Film Actress Sasha Grey Discusses Health Care Legislation

To be perfectly honest, I haven’t been following the national health care debate all that closely. Not, that is, until I heard what adult actress Sasha Grey had to say about it. Sure, Obama’s views are important, but what does a porn star think? That’s what I wanted to know. Here, care of our boys at Asylum, Sasha chats health care with a guy from “Human Giant” pretending to be Bob Guccione. Then the pizza guy shows up. I think I need a shower. [Asylum] Keep reading »

Is It Fair For Mya To Compete On “Dancing With The Stars”?

Mya Harrison earned 27 points for her rumba dance on last night’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars.” The judges gushed on and on about her great performance, which I have to say was very sexy and entertaining. But ever since Stacy Keibler competed on “DWTS” in season two I’ve had the same question: Is it fair for trained dancers to compete against Average Joe celebrities? Keep reading »

We Will Be Able To Watch DJ AM’s “Gone Too Far” After All

It was tragic when DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, died of a drug overdose in late August, relapsing after more than 11 years of sobriety. One of the horrible wrinkles in the story was that he’d recently filmed a TV series called “Gone Too Far” for MTV, an “Intervention“-style show where he helped addicts down the path to recovery. After a lot of consideration, MTV has decided to air the show after all, starting next Monday at 10 p.m. “Adam felt strongly that by doing this series, he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober,” his family said in an MTV statement about the decision. “It is our hope that through airing the show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others.” Check out the final interview Goldstein did about the show, above. Get ready to choke up when he says, “Part of me is like who am I—I’m a DJ—but I have to remember this person is going to die and their family has been allowing this to happen.” [ABC News]

What do you think—does Goldstein’s death add a whole ‘nother level of poignancy to the show or is airing the show terribly morbid?
