Vivident Gum’s Man Boobs & Marionettes

Vivident Gum is apparently the most popular gum in Italy, perhaps because their commercials are, um, so memorable. For a country dismayed by the antics of the “Jersey Shore” cast, I am surprised this ad passed muster. Naked man tits? A frightening marionette man? What does this have to do with gum again? It’s Bird, It’s A Plane, It’s Magnet Boy!

An 11-year-old Brazilian boy discovered his rare super power when his father asked him to get a knife from the kitchen one day and it stuck to his chest. Since then, doctors have been baffled by the magnetic properties of Paulo’s chest and back. At school, he’s been aptly nicknamed Magnet Boy. And at home he entertains his family by allowing them to stick scissors, silverware, spare change and other household sundries to his chest. Now he just has to hone his powers for the good of humankind, like a true superhero. [Newslite] Keep reading »

A Sneak Peek At The “Dallas” Reboot

We’re still not 100 percent in favor of a network dredging up a television hit of yesteryear and updating it with hot, young actors. I mean, the rebooted “90210” and “Hawaii 5-0″ have their moments—but the new “Melrose Place” was truly terrible and we don’t have huge hopes for Minka Kelly’s “Charlie’s Angels.” Last night, TNT debuted a preview of their rehash of “Dallas,” which will feature original stars Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray alongside newcomers Jesse Metcalf, Josh Henderson, and Jordana Brewster. In the preview, J.R. and Bobby Ewing do the most talking while the hot, young things do a lot of … makeout scenes. So maybe this show will be okay after all? We’ll have to wait until next summer to see. [EW] Keep reading »

Should Mila Kunis Go Out With This Marine?

When we heard that Sergeant Scott Moore had asked Mila Kunis to attend the Marine Corps. Ball with him this November in North Carolina, we imagined a cute, heartwarming entreaty, in which Moore professes his love and tells Mila how much it would mean to him and the troops. But no, this guy pooped out a sort of cocky 20-second missive that was like, bah-da-bing, let’s do this. And then Fox News told Mila about it over the weekend and she kind of agreed to go with him. Sure, we support our troops, but come on guy, Mila Kunis is one of the most beautiful women in the world. She’s friggin’ Black Swan! Try a little harder! Perhaps some singing and dancing? A little romancing? What do you think? Should Mila take him up on his offer? Keep reading »

On Hating Brenda

So many things to say about this 1993 MTV News report on Shannen Doherty and the phenomenon of the “I Hate Brenda Newsletter,” a little zine published about how much “Beverly Hills, 90210″‘s Brenda Walsh and Doherty sucked. For one, Shannen Doherty wanted to start a grunge band called Uncle Velvet? Why is John Corbett there? Also, I love one dude’s assertion that Shannen Doherty is growing her bangs out because she’s simply too lazy to pluck her eyebrows. So much vitriol! But I mean, really, Brenda kind of was the worst. Casey Anthony: Dexter’s Next Victim?

When Casey Anthony was acquitted of murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee last week, the internet reacted in a multitude of ways. Outrage on Twitter! Video montages of Nancy Grace’s reaction! And now, hypothesizing that Casey would be Dexter Morgan’s next victim. Dexter, of course, is the serial killer protagonist of the hit HBO Showtime show of the same name, who manages to be a “good guy” because he kills killers. Dexter often delights in the justice system “failing,” per se, because that means he gets to take justice into his own hands — hence this video imagining what his reaction would be to Anthony’s acquittal. Assuming, of course, that Dexter would believe that she’s guilty — his version of proof of guilt is often different than what would convince a jury. Keep reading »
