Bill O’Reilly: “Many Women Who Get Pregnant Are Blasted Out Of Their Minds When They Have Sex”

Birth control should not be covered without co-pays as part of preventative health care, Bill O’Reilly says, because “many women who get pregnant are blasted out of their minds when they have sex, [so] they’re not going to use birth control anyway.” He introduces this Fox News segment while talking about pot and booze and says covering the Pill would cost four billion dollars a year (um, can I get a source on that?) and suggests improving access to birth control will “maybe” cut back on the number of abortions, foster care, and people on welfare.

First of all, WHAT? Second of all, WHAT WHAT WHAT? Keep reading »

Amy Winehouse, At Her Very Best

Some of us were lucky enough to see Amy Winehouse perform live before she passed this weekend at the age of 27. Fewer of us were lucky enough to see her when she was really at her best, before drug and alcohol addiction started to chip away at her ability to channel her truly extraordinary talent. In 2007, Winehouse performed on “Live on the BBC” and this video of that session is 51 minutes of her being just fantastic. (FYI, the volume is sort of low up until the 6:31 mark.) “From The Back Of The Room”: New Documentary On Women In Punk Music

It’s been a kickass couple of years for women in music alternative scenes. Last year two books that dealt heavily with the Riot Grrl movement were published — Girls To The Front by Sara Marcus and Girl Power: The ’90s Revolution In Music by Marisa Meltzer — and a tour documentary about the band Le Tigre called “Who Took The Bomp? Le Tigre On Tour” debuted this spring. And there’s more kickass-ness where that came from, ladies and gents! Check out “From The Back Of The Room,” a new documentary about women in the DIY punk scene which is currently doing screenings up and down the East Coast. The punk scene is super-embracing of people who want an alternative from mainstream culture. Yet the scene is not always the sexism- and racism-free haven you think it is going to be, says one woman in the film. I would love to see a screening of “From The Back Of The Room,” especially since Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill and Le Tigre appears in it. [Pitchfork] Keep reading »

Adele And Kanye Remix “Melt My Heart To Stone”

Adele‘s “Melt My Heart To Stone” is one of those breakup songs that just tugs at your heartstrings. But the new Kanye West remix really takes the edge off. It’s not as good as his Katy Perry remix of “E.T.,” probably because there’s no lyrics like “Imma disrobe ya, then Imma probe ya.” Keep up the remixes of female pop stars, Kanye! Maybe one day we’ll get a Taylor Swift collab out of you. [DesiHits] Keep reading »

Amy Winehouse’s Last Time On Stage

On Wednesday night, Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter and protege Dionne Bromfield performed at the iTunes Festival and Amy accompanied her to the show. She also danced alongside Bromfield as she performed, though she didn’t sing, making this Amy’s last time on stage before her untimely death today at age 27. Our thoughts are with Amy’s family and friends. [Buzzfeed] Keep reading »

The New Old Spice Guy Is … Fabio?

In a sea of commercials where skimpily dressed sorority girls try to sell me beer, I’ve depended on the Old Spice Guy for that hottie fix I need to keep me from TiVo-ing away. There was the Isaiah Mustafa era (those were the days!) and then this guy, who was kind of a letdown. Now the new Old Spice Guy is … Fabio.

Really, Old Spice, you went from Isaiah Mustafa to Fabio? No offense, Fab, you’ve got great hair — incredible hair, really! — but this is not working for me. [YouTube] Keep reading »
