Miss J Reveals He’s A Father On “Tyra”

“Runway diva coach extraordinaire,” Miss J. Alexander, who is promoting his book Follow the Model, was on “The Tyra Show” yesterday and gave what was actually a totally refreshing and interesting interview. I was surprised, frankly, because Miss J plays such a caricature on “America’s Next Top Model,” and I didn’t expect to see him drop the flamboyant antics in favor of getting real. He revealed to the audience that he’s a father to a young boy, who was conceived after he and his ex-boyfriend both donated sperm to a female friend who wanted to have a child. While his sperm didn’t take (the ex’s sperm did), he’s very involved in young Alex’s life. It was fabulous to get a glimpse into the real Miss J. Keep reading »

Today’s Lady News: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand Speaks Out Against The Stupak Amendment

  • In this video clip, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) speaks out against the health care reform bill’s Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which limits how private insurance companies can offer coverage for abortion. More conservatively inclined Democrats voted for the House of Representative’s version of the health care bill this past Saturday night only after the Stupak-Pitts Amendment was included. The video is a little snoozy at first, but 45 seconds in, Sen. Gillibrand gets to the good stuff about why Stupak-Pitts isn’t good for our reproductive rights. [YouTube]
  • Speaking of the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has said today that the Senate has the 60 votes needed to block the controversial bill when it makes its way to there. Let’s hope so. [Huffington Post]

Rihanna Has A Fun Interview With Alexa Chung, For A Change

Rihanna was a guest on “It’s On With Alexa Chung” today, and Alexa was able to give the girl a break by moving the conversation past the domestic violence she experienced at the hands of Chris Brown. Rihanna talks briefly about the spike in calls to domestic abuse hotlines after her “20/20″ interview, but then we get to hear about the lighter side of her life — how she chooses her tattoos, what it’s like working with Ne-Yo, and how a fan can get her look. You know, the fun stuff someone her age should be concerned with. I’m sure this interview was a nice reprieve for Rihanna. Keep reading »

First Look At James Franco On “General Hospital”

OMG, my DVR is soooo ready to start recording “General Hospital” again! “GH” and I have been broken up for a while now — I just could not get behind Carly #3 or #4 — but with James Franco making his big daytime debut on the show next Friday, I’m ready to go back to Port Charles. By the looks of the preview, Franco is totally channeling “smell the fart acting” (a term coined by Joey Tribiani on “Friends”), testing out dramatic pauses and slightly over-the-top line delivery, all typical of great soap opera performances. However, are they giving him a love interest in Maxie Jones? Say it ain’t so!

As for why Franco wanted to be on the show in the first place? Apparently, my theory that he’d been watching the show with his grandma since he was a kid isn’t true. “General Hospital” executive producer Jill Farren Phelps said, “he had heard [soaps] are hard and thought it would be fun to try.” Plus, he liked “GH”‘s ongoing mob storyline. Ugh, James, it was SO much better in the late ’90s. But anyway. Will you be watching “General Hospital” for James Franco? Keep reading »

Album Drop: This Week’s New Releases, From Wale To Echo & The Bunnymen

This week, I’ve got some sad news, people. Gerhardt Fuchs, the drummer from Maserati and !!! (pronounced chk-chk-chk) — aka my favorite band — died tragically over the weekend. It was a horrible elevator shaft accident; you can read all the gory deets of how his attendance at a fundraiser went horrible awry. We join the long list of music lovers who would like to send their condolences. Fuchs was a beat maker and a very talented guy who was too young to die. (34!) Tear.

But it’s new release Tuesday, and new jams always make us feel better. So let’s take the latest tunes for a spin, shall we? This week it’s all about newcomer Wale hip-hopping his way into our hearts, legends Echo & The Bunnymen giving us classic cuts, folk singer Pieta Brown putting out her first EP, and Switchfoot and Flyleaf keeping alternative rock rockin’ on. So, let’s get into the groove, after the jump! Keep reading »

Hilary Duff Is The Highlight Of “Gossip Girl”‘s Threesome

So the “Gossip Girl” threesome finally happened and, lemme tell ya, the triple kiss makeout sesh I had freshman year of college was more climactic. I didn’t watch the episode, but was sex just implied and the only thing viewers got to see of this three-way was a little smooching? The only reason, really, to click on that play button is to see Lizzie McGuire french a chick, seriously. Keep reading »

Change Your Underpants, Change The World

Sometimes I feel bad for not recycling enough, but if going green is as easy as wearing environmentally friendly underpants and results in scoring at the office, I’m down. [NOTCOT] Keep reading »

Ellen DeGeneres And Portia de Rossi Open Up On “Oprah”

On yesterday’s episode, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, talked with Oprah about their careers, living life with compassion, and being the most high-profile lesbian couple in the world. Both Ellen and Portia discuss getting over the anxiety of publicly coming out as a lesbian, which Portia finally faced when she decided to date Ellen. “I faced every one of my fears to do it.” Portia says, “She did this for me, because I felt this overwhelming connection with her and I didn’t want to miss out. The love overcame the fear for me.” Clip above. Keep reading »

George Clooney Dies, Returns To Life

A-list Hollywood actors do cheesy ads abroad for mega-bucks, hoping no one in America will see them. Too late, George! In this spot for Nespresso espresso, Clooney, who plays an espresso drinker, hangs out with John Malkovich, who plays God, natch. The surreal spot was directed by Robert Rodriguez, who directed “Spy Kids” and “Sin City.” It’s kind of weird to see Michael Clayton hawking espresso, but I’ll take my George however I can get him.
