Like us, “Saturday Night Live” comedian Fred Armisen is addicted to “Intervention.” His dependency on the A&E show is so bad he watches 21 episodes a day and it’s negatively affecting his relationships with his fiancée (Elisabeth Moss, you know, from “Mad Men”), agent, and friends. His loved ones knew an intervention was their last hope of saving Fred from utter destruction when they found out that he had … been watching episodes of “Intervention” while driving. His harrowing story, above. Keep reading »
First, there was “Intervention,” A&E’s harrowing documentary series that takes an unblinking look at the lives of addicts. From naked, screaming meth heads to killing-themselves-slowly alcoholic fathers, the show is equal parts terrifying, riveting, and compelling. While the characters change — pill-popping shrink, homeless crackhead, Listerine-swilling mom — the story is always the same. Somewhere along the road of their lives, these people went reeling off course, and their addiction controls their futures, as they stagger from bar to dealer to homelessness.
Now, “Obsessed” takes a look at people who are controlled by Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Whether they can’t stop washing their hands, are convinced the refrigerator will fall through the floor at any moment, or pick at their faces with what amounts to pliers, they are ruled by their OCD. Oh, how time flies! Can you believe the season is almost over?! I know, I didn’t realize it either, but apparently last night’s episode was the penultimate of “NYC Prep,” with the finale just next week. As for another season of “NYC Prep,” things aren’t looking too good considering the low ratings and defensive attitude from Manhattan schools.
Perhaps I was so shocked to realize there was so little time left because this episode was a real bore: Producers continue to put Camille in awkward situations, including her trip to Harvard; Sebastian tosses his hair around; and PC continues to be a hopelessly lost boy. Keep reading »
We already knew “The Hills” was fake from that time Lauren Conrad told the ladies on “The View” that Spencer wasn’t on the other end of her apology phone call. Oh, and from that other time when L.C. wrote a book based on her experience on “The Hills,” and the characters weren’t sure if what they were going through was real or set up. But now, the show’s producers are totally slacking and not even trying to hide the fakery. Yesterday, a paparazzi photographer caught Kristin Cavallari flat-out reading through a “Hills” script with a producer before filming a clearly set-up romance between her and Justin Bobby. C’mon MTV, just so I don’t have to feel excessively guilty when I watch the next season, can’t you play pretend and at least attempt to cover up the phony reality? [NY Post] Keep reading »
My pubescent pop-culture adrenaline soared to dangerous heights for MTV’s Video Music Awards back in high school. And still, it’s fun to see who made the cut. So get your ballots ready, cause the nominations are in! “Single lady” Beyoncé and Lady Gaga each have nine nominations, tying for the top spot. Britney Spears has the third-highest number of nominations—she reeled in seven. We’ll have to wait until September 13, when Russell Brand hosts the show for the second year in a row, to see who walks home with the most moon men. Maybe they should start making a moon woman? [MTV] Keep reading »
I’m not going to lie, I actually loved the “Sex and The City” movie. It gave fans like me another dose of Carrie and the girls, who we’ve missed so intensely since the show’s finale. (And, of course, I’m holding my breath until the “SATC” sequel.) But now it seems that every popular HBO show is being considered for a movie version. Jeremy Piven already spilled the beans that he’s working on bringing Ari, Vince, and the rest of the “Entourage” crew to the big screen. Now word’s out about a possible “Sopranos” flick. Seriously?! [NY Daily News]

It’s a big day in Rachel Zoe news. Not only did The Zoe Report debut this morning, but there’s also a preview trailer for season two of “The Rachel Zoe Project,” which airs on Bravo starting Aug. 24. We cannot wait to watch how she deals with the bad press about her underweight look; to see who quits first, Brad or Taylor; and to marvel at the gorgeousness that is Liv Tyler, who says upon arriving at Rachel’s studio, “I need cute outfits!” We do, too, Liv, so can we have your hand-me-downs? Ever since the first season of “The Real World” (damn that was a long time ago), I’ve watched reality television evolve—or devolve?—from a bunch of earnest 20-somethings struggling to make it in New York City to a bunch of fame-seeking whores pulling hair, getting wasted, and performing soft porn on camera. (Ever seen “Tila Tequila’s Shot at Love?”) I often ask myself what kind of person would want to live their life on camera? What goes on when it isn’t rolling? And how svengali-like are the producers? Luckily, the New York Times ran a story yesterday that answered many of my questions.
While people on these shows sign extensive non-disclosure agreements—they practically have to hand over their first-born should they reveal “reality show secrets”—most contracts expire after a few years. So some reality stars are opening up about their experiences while filming. After the jump, some the revelations from the article that shocked me the most. Keep reading »
Last night’s episode of “True Blood” was mega exciting. In a nutshell: Bill was stuck in a hotel room with his maker Lorena and we were treated to another flashback, though this one was less bloody and sexual. I wonder if, as time goes on, we’ll get to see flashbacks of all the vamps in different time periods. Aren’t you just dying to see what Eric looked like in the ’70s? I know I am! This week, lots of shows are coming and going. First, we’ll say good-bye to “So You Think You Can Dance” for the season. But do not fret. In addition to the premieres of “Addicted to Beauty” and “How’d You Get So Rich,” we have new episodes of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” to look forward to. The recently separated couple return to the screen in their first new episode in five weeks. And Chris Kattan will make his first appearance on the boob tube in what seems like years in “Bollywood Hero.” It’s shaping up to be a wicked week for the square screen. Keep reading »
