Remote Control: What You’ll Want To Watch The Week Of October 12th 2009

Over the past few weeks, there’s been so much new TV and so little time. But now that we’ve reached mid-October, it’s time to settle in and get comfortable with your old favorites. This week brings the season premieres of “30 Rock,” “Nip/Tuck,” and “Ugly Betty.” Oh, but there are a few new things, too. You definitely won’t want to miss DJ AM’s “Gone Too Far,” which promises to be “Intervention” turned up a few notches. Oh, and “The Newlywed Game” welcomes its first gay couple. Keep reading »

Kater Gordon, The 27-Year-Old Emmy-Winning “Mad Men” Writer, Gets Fired

About three weeks ago, 27-year-old “Mad Men” scribe Kater Gordon won an Emmy for the episode “Meditations in an Emergency,” which you know as the one where Betty Draper does the deed with some dude in the women’s powder room of a Manhattan bar. Kater was kind of like Weiner’s personal Peggy Olson. She started off babysitting his kids, but after the two started talking television, he hired her as his personal assistant. During season one of “Mad Men,” she became his writer’s assistant and by the end of season two was given the opportunity to co-write the season finale. For season three, she was promoted to full-fledged staff writer. But, surprise, Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Kater has been fired. “We think [Kater's] done a great job, particularly for someone whose career has progressed so quickly,” a show insider told Finke. “Now, however, Matt has reluctantly decided that their relationship has reached its full potential. There’s absolutely no doubt that Kater will continue to have unprecedented success in her career as she spreads her wings.” [Deadline] Keep reading »

If “HIMYM”‘s Barney Can Do It: Other TV Characters I Want To Find Love

I’ve been obsessively watching “How I Met Your Mother” after discovering it late (super late) in the third season. Actually, I let it slip that I wasn’t watching it and then got harangued by everyone I knew for not knowing what it meant to be the married “Lily” of the group. Since then, I’ve been loving Neil Patrick Harris‘ bad Barney. His Lothario-dude, who would be a creepy, sadistic psychopath in real life, is adorable on TV as he wham-bam-thank-you-ma’ams his way through the ladies of New York. Except, this season he is adorable in a brand-new way. He’s found love with Robin, an uncomfortable, wince-inducing, awesome, making-out and having-googly-eyed-Sunday-brunch kind of love. And I love that he’s in love. Which got me thinking about all the other fictional characters that I’ve wanted to watch fall in love. Or at least get kissed. Keep reading »

Jim And Pam’s Wedding Dance

OK, SPOILER: If you haven’t watched last night’s special episode of “The Office” yet where Jim and Pam get married, you may not want to watch this clip or read the rest of this post. Although, seriously, if you were such a big fan, wouldn’t you have found a way to watch the show by now? Anyway, in what might have been the best fictional wedding ever, Jim and Pam’s guests re-enacted the infamous JK wedding dance that became a YouTube sensation earlier this summer. No worries for the happy couple, though, who managed to sneak away an hour before the ceremony and marry in a very secret, very private wedding aboard the Maid of the Mist (and if you happen to get a little misty watching, well, you’re only human). Clip above. [via BuzzFeed] Keep reading »

Ellen Page Mocks Hipsters In HBO’s “Stich N’ Bitch”

Brooklyn hipsters need more positive encouragement like I need a hole in the head. But I’m still thrilled my girl Ellen Page is writing a comedy for HBO about mankind’s most poser-ific social group. The “Juno” star, along with Alia Shawkat from “Arrested Development” and Sean Tillmann (aka musician Har Mar Superstar), will write and produce Stich N’ Bitch, a show about two hipster girls who move from Williamsburg, Brooklyn to Silver Lake, Los Angeles in a passionate quest to be artistes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, any of the three actors might star in the show but no roles have been cast yet. Oh, pretty please, Ellen? I can’t imagine anyone else I want to watch suffer for their art.

By the way, for those of you who aren’t in the know, Stitch N’ Bitch is a series of knitting how-to books written by Debbie Stoller, the editor-in-chief and publisher of Bust, one of our favorite mags. Great name, ladies! [The Hollywood Reporter] Keep reading »

Dudes Say Don Draper Is The Most Influential Guy Of 2009

Guess who AskMen.com readers voted the most influential man of 2009? Don Draper, who, technically, is a not a “real” man but a fictional character. Sure, I love me some hot Hamm every Sunday night, but, at the end of the torrid hour, I realize that “Mad Men” is just a television show and that Don Draper is just a caricature of a man struggling with his own demons, unwilling to face his problems head-on. So why are guys so obsessed with Don, to the point that they treat him as an actual person? Keep reading »

Meredith Vieira Throws Herself At Hot Navy Pilot Who Wants To Be A Millionaire

Being married didn’t stop host Meredith Vieira from throwing herself at a handsome Navy pilot who appeared as a guest on “Who Want to Be a Millionaire?” Max Shuman showed up in uniform to compete on the game show, where he seemed to be blindsided by Vieira’s nonstop, cougar-esque advances. “You are one handsome guy — woah!” Vieira solicited the clearly embarrassed Shuman. The host went on to make suggestive comments as the Virginia Beach, Virginia pilot attempted to answer his questions. “I’m a old horny woman!” she declared. Uh, yup. Poor Max. Sob! Tom DeLay Leaves “Dancing With The Stars”

Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay made his debut on “Dancing With the Stars” with the cha-cha and made our hearts beat to the rhythm of “Wild Thing.” But now, at the urging of doctors and ABC producers, DeLay will withdraw from the competition after being diagnosed with stress fractures in both feet from dancing. He reportedly wears foot braces when he’s not in the ballroom, but the samba he performed Monday seemed worth the discomfort to him. “What’s a little pain when you can party?” DeLay said before his last dance. Take care of your feet, Tom. We want you well enough to dance the Texas two-step for the season finale. [NPR] Keep reading »

Am I Pumped For Pam And Jim’s Wedding, Or Scared It’s The End Of “The Office”?

I’m way excited for Pam and Jim’s wedding on “The Office,” Thursday night. Almost as excited as a bridesmaid who knows she’ll be getting some from the best man. Of all the sitcom romances I’ve seen over the years, theirs is the most real, the most subtle and the most fulfilling. They’ve survived five seasons of working in the same office and their love makes even more sense now. They both broke up with fantastic people to be with each other, bought a house together at peak market value, and are still happily paying the mortgage together. They psyched us out last season when they called off their last-minute elopement at the last-last minute, when the joy of Café Disco reminded them of how much they love cheesy celebrations. To seal the deal, last season’s final episode revealed that Jim’s bun is in Pam’s oven. And now, thanks to sneak previews galore, we know that Pam and Jim are bringing all their office mates to Niagara Falls for a one-hour destination wedding special.

But am I excited … or scared? Keep reading »
