Rimmel London Signs Solange & Zooey Deschanel

We’re slightly obsessed with both Solange and Zooey Deschanel, so you know we let out a squeal when we learned that affordable cosmetics line Rimmel London has signed them to be spokeswomen. Rimmel, which has also added Puerto Rican model Alejandra Ramos Munoz to the roster, is hoping their move to include more diverse women in their ads will increase the brand’s appeal in Asia and South America. “At a time of extraordinary worldwide growth for the brand, these three strong, successful and uniquely beautiful women will help ensure that Rimmel London’s image continues to be modern and globally relevant,” said Renato Semerari, President of Coty Beauty, which owns Rimmel. Why Is Zooey Deschanel Shilling For Absolut Vodka?

Before today, I thought Zooey Deschanel was the perfect example of how stars can appear in ads without looking like sellouts. Her collaboration with eye wear manufacturer Oliver Peoples made sense, and the song she wrote about cotton, “the fabric of our lives,” was good enough for me to listen to at times besides when it aired during TV commercial breaks.

Now, however, Zooey is in an ad for Absolut Vodka. While it was shot by Ellen von Unwerth, who is well-respected and has previously photographed Zooey for magazine shoots, the connection between these two women and vodka doesn’t make much sense to me, at least not in this photo. And for the first time, I feel like Zooey is just another celebrity picking up extra money by posing with products. Keep reading »

On Saturday, Zooey Deschanel married Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard in what will be remembered as the indiest of unions ever. The top-secret wedding took place in Seattle and Gibbard’s band mate broke the news on Twitter when he said, “Wedding day! So excited.” Zooey’s already crossed over to music with her band She & Him and now Gibbard will be acting in John Krasinski’s “Brief Interviews with Hideous Men,” which comes out on Friday. Although every emo boy with a hard-on for Zooey is probably crying and rocking himself back and forth in his closet right now, we’re secretly super excited to see what kind of indie rock magic this couple makes together.   • Khloe Kardashian plans to wed beau Lamar Odom within the next two weeks, so they can have time for a honeymoon before basketball season starts. [Us Weekly] — Or they could wait until after the season and see if they can last longer than a month.
  • Chris Rock is rumored to be cheating with Kerry Washington, and his wife wouldn’t let him take a part in David Mamet’s “Race” because Kerry is in it. [NY Daily News] — They had a lot of chemistry in “I Think I Love My Wife,” but I don’t see Kerry as the home-wrecker type.

The “(500) Days Of Summer” Reunion Bank Dance

I’m off next week for a much needed vacation — Costa Rica! Surfing! Yoga! Beer! — leaving The Frisky in the very capable hands of your regular bloggers. Consider this video my parting gift. There’s a dance sequence in “(500) Days Of Summer,” in which Joseph Gordon-Levitt is so high on life that he dances through the streets of L.A., but Zooey Deschanel‘s own sweet moves were absent. On his website, hitRECord.org, Joe posted this video and wrote:

I mean, it really felt a bit wrong — Zooey’s born for musical numbers, and the one day she wasn’t on set, we go and shoot a musical number? The wrong had to be righted. So when it came time to start promoting the movie, we had the idea to kill two birds with one stone…. It’s a work of art in its own right. And to me, it seems like so much more effective an endorsement of the movie than any interview or fashion shoot…. Plus it was about as purely fun a day on a set as I’ve ever had. Hope you like it!

Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Levitt, stars of the upcoming ZOMG-I-cannot-wait-to-see-it movie “500 Days Of Summer,” filmed a mash up of a scene from their movie with the incredibly, uh, compelling love story of “Sid & Nancy.” Only Zooey plays Sid Vicious, and Joseph plays Nancy Spungen. Zooey Deschanel Cashes In Without Selling Out

I’ve always thought the ads for cotton were nicely done, but this new one blows away all past commercials for the fabric of our lives. In it, Zooey Deschanel prances through her day, performing, writing a song, checking out a flea market, browsing through records, and trying on various adorable outfits made of cotton.

When other starlets appear in commercials or put their names on products, we think of them as sellouts, i.e., Lindsay and her line of hosiery. Zooey, on the other hand, has managed to use her image to make money without damaging her reputation. In fact, we love her even more for it! And cotton isn’t the only thing she’s selling. Zooey recently launched a mini-line of sunglasses with Oliver Peoples. Other celebrities should follow her classy example.
