Zoe Saldana On Being Successful As A Woman Of Color In Hollywood: “My Balls Are Pretty Big”

“I don’t want to spend my life thinking about all the impossibilities I face when I wake up in the morning. But the reality is, I’m a woman of color in America. That itself is enough for you to wake up and go, “Oh, f—!” … My balls are pretty big. There’s a confidence that my sisters and I were raised with. After my dad died [in a car accident, when she was nine years old], my mom moved us from Queens back to the Dominican Republic. A very macho sort of place. But my mom raised us to know that we are equal to anyone.”

Zoe Saldana has always struck me as the best kind of interviewee: someone who will sound off openly and honestly and say things that make you want to be her friend. Scratch that, I want both Zoe and Mama Saldana in my corner.

In this interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe also talked about the controversy around her role in a biopic about Nina Simone. Some people, including Frisky contributor Erica Watson, complained that Hollywood whitewashed Nina’s story by casting a lighter-skinned woman of color like Zoe for the role. Nina Simone was a darker-skinned Black woman who was very proud of her Blackness. Here’s what Zoe — who has addressed the controversy before — has to say about that: Keep reading »

You Will Never Guess The Craziest Place Zoe Saldana Has Had Sex

  • A radio show host asked Zoe Saldana to confess the nastiest place she’s ever had sex. Her response? “There is a train from Coney Island [New York] all the way back into the city, and it was between two train cars. It was super ghetto. But I’m a lady now.” So there you go. [Dlisted]
  • Pope Francis has called for a redistribution of wealth to the poor, saying that inequality is the root of all evil and we must curb capitalism to make way for a new culture of generosity. Damn, I’m really starting to like this guy. [HuffPo] Keep reading »

Style Stealer: Zoe Saldana’s Chic Summer Staples

Zoe Saldana Style Stealer

I’ve decided that this year’s summer uniform will be stretchy pencil skirts, slouchy tank tops, and big-ass sunglasses. It’s a combination that’s comfy, stylish, sexy, and accommodating of butt and boob sweat. My style muse? Zoe Saldana. She looks so chic in this outfit, and I love how she added ankle boots and bright red nail polish to bring a little rock star vibe into the equation. Want to join me in stealing her look? Zoe Saldana’s Face Is Forever Immortalized On Her Husband’s Forearm

Uh, unless my eyes deceive me, Zoe Saldana’s new husband, Marco Perego, has a portrait of her face tattooed on his arm. God, I hope for his sake that this relaysh lasts. Face tattoos are much harder to remove or alter than, say, names. There will be no easy, “Wino Forever” solution if these two split up. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]

This is Zoe Saldana and her boyfriend-maybe-husband, artist Marco Perego. The “Avatar” star may have married Perego over the weekend, but nobody’s sure. What we do know is that both of them seem intent on hiding their ring fingers from the glare of the paparazzi. Perhaps to throw questioning gossips off their scent, Perego has opted to wear his hair in a crazy huge man bun. And I guess it worked: I don’t even care about the rings — I just want to know what his hair looks like when it’s down. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

“I find it uncomfortable to have to speak about my identity all of the time, when in reality it’s not something that drives me or wakes me up out of bed everyday. I didn’t grow up in a household where I was categorized by my mother. I was just Zoe and I could have and be anything that I ever wanted to do…and every human being is the same as you. So to all of a sudden leave your household and have people always ask you, “What are you, what are you” is the most uncomfortable question and it’s literally the most repetitive question. I can’t wait to be in a world where people are sized by their soul and how much they can contribute as individuals and not what they look like. … Keep reading »
