Chivalry is officially dead: a naked boyfriend ran off into the African bush while a lion mauled to death the girlfriend with whom he’d just been having sex. A friend told local news in Zimbabwe, “The two were romping when the incident occurred. The lion came from behind and roared.” Sharai Mawera had her neck and stomach torn apart by the lion, while her unnamed fisherman beau ran off while still wearing a condom— supposedly to get help. This is the second time a human has been mauled by a lion in the area in the past week. Let that be a lesson about outdoor lovemaking: don’t do it with dangerous predators around or with men who’ll leave you behind for breakfast.
Any story of rape, whether it happens to a man, woman or child, is horrific and tragic. This particular story has the distinction of being horrific, tragic and weird: three women in Zimbabwe have been charged with sexually assaulting male hitchhikers and collecting condoms filled with semen. The women had 33 jizz-laden condoms, which police say were acquired during 17 different sexual assaults over the past two years.

An article on CNN yesterday turned me on to Zimababwe native Betty Makoni, CNN hero of the week. She is a teacher, a volunteer, and the executive director of her organization, Girl Child Network (GCN), which boasts 30,000 members in Zimbabwe alone. She was also raped when she was 6 years old.
