Check This Out: YSL/UNIFEM For Women’s Anti-Violence Campaign

Happy International Women’s Day! (Congrats on having a vagina. And on being generally awesome. And so much more.)

If this all crept up on you, and you’re stuck behind your desk all day, here’s a quick and easy way to lend your support to the female community—sign your name on the Yves Saint Laurent and UNIFEM (the women’s fund at the United Nations) anti-violence campaign. Showing your support for the “Say No to Violence” action will join you with the UNIFEM-YSL alliance, which promises to “highlight the issue and call attention to working strategies and solutions that apply in developing countries and are applicable in the developed world as well.” In addition, the initiative will provide resources and grants in a variety of areas.

A tip of the hat to YSL for using its fashion power for good and supporting the global women’s community. [SayNoToViolence.org] Keep reading »

Here’s A Panda With Enviable Fashion Sense

Most people keep their love of animals and fashion separate (except for the morons who created these disturbing ads). But for Chinese art student, Ben Liu, the two go hand in hand in a perfectly adorable way. He created Benda, a panda with style and class, not to mention a closet full of Yves Saint Laurent. The sweet creature parades around in a Mondrian dress with matching background, and poses in the different outfits, all while showing off her cute little ears. It’s kind of the most precious thing I’ve seen in a while. But YSL isn’t this little panda’s only obsession. She dresses up as Andy Warhol sometimes, or Marilyn Monroe, and even Audrey Hepburn. Why a panda? Who knows, but Liu has been known to sport a fuzzy-eared hat around town. [Trend de la Creme] Keep reading »

Do You Speak Fashion? Let Us Translate.

When it comes to highbrow fashion, even we get a bit lost when it comes to reading the obtuse critiques of fashion journalists or hearing the vague, but supposedly deep, inspirations from designers. Today, the Guardian proudly calls out the incoherent information fashion designers spit out to “explain” their collections. And quite rightly, seeing as what the Alexander Wangs and Karl Lagerfelds of the world have to say doesn’t quite match up with what you see on the runway. So we decided to take a closer look at what a handful of top designers had to say about their collections, and we’ve helpfully translated. [Guardian.co.uk] Keep reading »

Quick Pic: Kate Moss Forgot To Wear Her Nippies

Kate Moss clearly missed the memo regarding pasties and Nippies being so hot right now. Always the trendsetter, she opted for a more “natural” look for her front row appearance at Yves Saint Laurent’s Spring 2010 show. And it looks like it was cold in there, too. [Paris, 10/6/09] Keep reading »

Kate Moss Stars In Totally Hot New YSL Parisienne Commercial

Whoever says Kate Moss doesn’t have it going on anymore is dead wrong. This new ad for Yves Saint Laurent‘s Parisienne fragrance in which she stars is scorching hot. Frankly, I don’t even know what Kate is doing there, but it makes me want to buy a bottle immediately. [Fashion Copious] Keep reading »

Products To Keep Your Mug Matte

While you’d love to achieve that dewy look in the summer, when it’s 90-plus degrees out, most of the time, “dewy” turns into “drenched in sweat.” There are two solutions for beating this beauty dilemma: become a hermit who never leaves her climate-controlled house, or invest in some anti-shine products that will keep your face matte. You choose.

  1. Create a solid base with Rimmel’s new Stay Matte foundation, a heavy-duty, shine-free formula that lasts for 12 hours. (There’s also a Stay Matte powder you can try coupling it with.) [$6.99, Walgreens.com]
  2. If you don’t need a base color, but just want your natural skin to be less tacky, brush on Smashbox’s Anti-Shine powder-gel, a professional-grade product that absorbs surface shine. [$27, Sephora.com]
  3. Lock in the look with a top-notch anti-shine powder like Yves Saint Laurent Matt Touch. Anti-sebo sponge properties absorb oil and perspiration. [$40-$57, Sephora.com]

The Daily Hotness: Yves Saint Laurent, 1936-2008

French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent died yesterday of a brain tumor at the age of 71. YSL epitomized crazy, chic, snooty (and I mean that in a good way) French style and pioneered the lady pantsuit. If we were still using the term, we would call him fierce. [Bloomberg.com] Keep reading »
