A History Of Umlauts In Pop Music

Lady Gaga didn’t think one video for “Yoü and I” was enough, so she has also created six “fashion films” about each of the vid’s assorted characters. She’s shown us the Nymph and the Bride and, today, she released the third video in the series about her mermaid alter ego, Yüyi. The film, called “Haus of Ü Featuring Yüyi,” shows Gaga as a mermaid writhing in a director’s chair, smoking a cigarette, and being carried out of a trailer. And yes, she has gils. Lots of them.

Lady Gaga’s Video For “Yoü and I” Is Intentionally As Confusing As Love

Yesterday, Lady Gaga‘s video for “Yoü and I” was supposed to premiere on MTV at exactly 7:49p.m. However, after it leaked earlier in the week, Gaga jumped the gun on unveiling the video, which features her as mermaid Yuyi and as dude Jo Calderone, as well as rocking her mother’s actual wedding dress. So that’s what it’s about, perceiving in your imagination that there’s something magical inside of you that you can make it work.” Whoa. That’s kinda very true. Keep reading »

Lady Gaga Morphs Into Sir Gaga In Cover Art For “Yoü and I”

Lady Gaga has promised us that her 1,000th tweet will be the fourth single off Born This Way, “Yoü and I.” And since we are only eight tweets away, over the weekend Gaga posted the cover art for the single along with the message, “You will never find what you are looking for in love, if you don’t love yourself.” The image is, of course, Gaga herself as her male alter-ego, Joe Calderone. I gotta say—Gaga is a much prettier lady than she is a dude. Also, is the umlaut in “Yoü and I” and ode to Lüc Carl? [NY Mag] Keep reading »
