Found: My New Favorite Running Shorts

In my continuing quest to become a runner, I’ve conquered a number of mental obstacles, but until recently, had yet to figure out the solution to a more tangible challenge: finding running clothes that are comfortable and functional for my big-busted, short, curvy body (not exactly the shape most athletic companies cater to). After finally tracking down my dream sports bra, my next goal was to find a pair of running shorts. The requirements:

  • Thick spandex, because those flimsy nylon running shorts just don’t cut it.
  • Don’t fall down, ride up, pinch, sag, or require any adjustments while running.
  • Don’t make my thighs look like freshly stuffed sausages.
  • Have a zip pocket for my keys, gym ID card, etc.
  • Not too short.

That’s not too much to ask, is it? After buying and trying many different types of running tights, leggings, and shorts with results that ranged from “god, no!” to “meh,” I took Moving Comfort’s 7.5″ Endurance Shorts for a test run (literally), and fell in love. They meet all my requirements and more. Here’s why they’re awesome: Keep reading »

All prices listed are VIP prices, but you can still purchase any outfit without being a VIP, and/or just buy each item individually! I’m seriously drooling over that cutout t-shirt with cross-cross bra on the left. WANT.

Must Haves: 10 Printed Leggings To Brighten Up Your Spring Workouts

Sure, you could work out in a plain pair of black leggings, but where’s the fun in that? Athletic brands are packing the spring shelves with capri leggings and running tights in all kinds of bright, crazy patterns — why not grab a pair for yourself and bring a little life to your gym wardrobe (not to mention those dull miles on the treadmill)? Click through for 10 of our favorite printed leggings that just might motivate you to exercise. And if not, they’ll look pretty cool running errands too.

Compassionate Fashion: Stylish, American-Made Sneakers From New Balance

When it comes to major athletic brands, most companies’ abhorrent manufacturing practices leave a lot to be desired. And then there’s New Balance. Take a spin through one of their stores or pick up one of their colorful athletic shoes and you’ll probably find a little surprise printed on the tag: “Proudly Made In The USA.”

While other brands have moved more and more of their production overseas, New Balance has increased their domestic manufacturing jobs by 45% since 1995, and have never — I repeat, NEVER — laid off a domestic factory worker. Currently, 25% of New Balance shoes (that’s 7 million pairs a year) are made in the USA. If you want to support American workers, pamper your feet, and look fabulous at the gym, New Balance is absolutely the way to go. I’ve picked out a few of my favorite sneakers (and one magical pair of socks) from their USA collection. Click through to check ‘em out!

Cheapskate: Workout Wear From $6

When it comes to working out, you’ll usually find me in a large random T-shirt and a pair of leggings that aren’t nice enough to really wear as an outfit. But now, as the summer is coming to an end, I’ve promised myself to keep up with my exercise. It’s funny how being excited about a new garment or outfit can motivate us to get up and do something. With that and my promise in mind, I went searching for cute and affordable workout wear. Check out what I found, after the jump. Keep reading »

Crap You Don’t Need: The $1,800 Sports Bra

I have a hard time buying expensive sports bras, because not only is it going to get sweaty after each use, but the color will fade due to the sheer number of times it has to be laundered. Kelly Dooley, the creator of BodyRock Sport, obviously doesn’t care and seems to think the world needs to bring fashion to the gym. She created a sports bra called the Trenta, which retails for $1,850! It not only costs way more than the norm, but also features a whole display of Swarovski crystals! The spandex sports bra was a collaboration with jewelry designer Joseph Knight of Knight & Hammer and features an embellished necklace of silver charms along the neckline of crystals. The designer claims that the embellishment can be removed and worn as a necklace, but I’m sorry … who wants to wear Swarovski to the gym? Or pay almost two grand for a sports bra? Workout Apparel For Sweating In Style

Working out is a necessary part of life, and whether you’re a marathon runner or an elliptical pro, one fact remains the same: You can’t exercise in the nude. We’re always interested in cute, affordable workout clothes because, though we don’t want to spend money on stuff we’re just going to sweat in, it’s important to be happy with what we’re wearing. Now, thanks to Forever 21′s new line of workout paraphernalia, we can stock up on everything from socks to cute sports bras and spend the money we save on regular clothes that show off our hard work.

Nike Turns Your Evening Run Into A Fashion Show

Your old, worn-out running shorts are simply unacceptable for a post-work run on the treadmill, because heading to the gym isn’t just about sweating off those extra calories you drank this weekend. No, it’s about being seen by your fellow gym-goers. Nike realized that some people need to look fashion-forward while exercising, so the sports brand is launching their first fashion-inspired collection, Nike 6.0. Come July, you’ll be able to buy cute clothes and shoes for working out (or wearing around town on the weekend) at pretty reasonable prices; the pieces range from $24 to $120. Here’s the even better news: Sure, you’ll look cuter than you would in an old T-shirt with pit stains, but the gear’s also totally functional since surfers Carissa Moore and Monyca Byrne-Wickey and snowboarder Ellery Hollingsworth gave Nike input during the line’s development stage. I’m especially loving the worn-in blue sweatshirt that comes with a little zipper pocket, which is perfect for your iPod. Check it out after the jump! [WWD] Keep reading »
