Up in Ye Olde Woodstock, New York, there’s an old couple who go by Grandma and Grandpa Woodstock. The pair both attended the original Woodstock (unrelated to the Limp Bizkit violence and rape-fest of 1999), but didn’t meet until the Rainbow Gathering a few years ago. The be-dreadlocked and whiskered couple got married at a Gathering in 2009, and return each year to celebrate and, presumably, barter macrame wall hangings for drugs.
The couple took a bus to the Montana Gathering location, but were told they wouldn’t be allowed on a return bus, because of their dog. So they purchased plane tickets for the return trip to Woodstock. The only problem? Ninety-year-old Grandma Woodstock didn’t have an ID. “She forgot where she put it probably about 10 years ago,” explained Grandpa. The pair eventually got on a flight, but not before they became mini-celebs at the Salt Lake City airport. Peace and love, in the air! [Fox 13]
WWD came up with a fun project to help celebrate Woodstock’s 40th anniversary. Because designers have been long-inspired by hippie style, they asked several young designers–including current fashion darling Alexander Wang and Jeremy Laing–to sketch their own interpretations of hippie chic. We’re especially fond of Prabal Gurung’s fantastical skirt made up of music fans from the Woodstock crowd and Peter Som’s flowing two-piece frock surrounded by colorful swirls. Totally psychedelic, indeed. Check their site to see the full slideshow. [WWD] Keep reading »

Feels like we could use a little bit of that idealism, love, and enthusiasm these days—though we can probably do without all the psychedelics and armpit hair. When I think of Woodstock, one iconic image pops into my mind—the picture of that cute couple wrapped in the blanket, lovingly embracing each other amidst the crowd. The photo was on the cover of the album and the poster of “Woodstock,” the movie. Well…guess what? The couple in that photograph is still together and happily married after all these years! OMG, I think I just squealed out loud. Keep reading »
