For as long as I’ve noticed that I have body hair — since 7th grade? — I’ve been a shaver. I mean, I wax my upper lip (deal with it dudes, every girl has a ‘stache) and my eyebrows, but the rest of me I shave. And it is annoying. Recently I have been considering my other hair removal options as I have no plans in getting in touch with my inner hippie and letting it all grow out. There’s waxing, sure, but who wants to let their leg hair grow out to a length where it could reasonably be yanked out? It’s summer after all. There’s also laser hair removal, which I’ve always considered to be the Bill Gates of hair removal options because it’s so expensive and requires a ton of in-office visits. Until now. TRIA’s Hair Removal System is the first and only FDA-cleared at-home laser that gives permanent results, eliminating the need for shaving or waxing. Now, I’m going to be testing out this bad boy for a future Beauty Test Drive, but so far, it’s easy to use. Also worth noting: TRIA is not safe for use by people with medium/dark skin tones, so keep that in mind. TRIA’s Hair Removal System isn’t cheap, but compared to how much you’d fork over for costly in-office treatments, if you’re desperate to be hair and shaving-cut free, it’s a steal. Earlier this week marked the 50th anniversary of the classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In the past half-century, Scout, Jem, Atticus and, of course, Boo Radley have charmed millions of readers (if not necessarily high school English classes) with their tale about coming of age, family, and racism in the South. I can’t be the only one who was inspired as a kid by spunky Scout and her wild imagination! This summer, libraries and book clubs around the U.S. and Canada are celebrating the 50th anniversary, so be sure to check out events in your area.

Last week, we asked you to pick the American Living look that was made for your American lifestyle. Many of you recognized the casual and comfortable qualities of JCPenney’s American Living brand just from the photos, and one of you enjoyed the contest so much that you wrote a poem about it. But there could only be one winner. And she is … TreeseReese for this comment, which paints a complete picture of her American living:

“When I think of American Living, I picture a picnic on the 4th of July. In a lush green park with the famous red checkered table cloth adorning the old wooden picnic table, juicy hamburgers sizzling on the grill and the sound of children playing in the background.

Although the fifth outfit seems to be the most appropriate for the holiday (patriotic), the second fits right into my picture. The light colors of number two will keep you cool during the heat of the day and the capris will keep the evening chill off while watching fireworks. Look number two also has sensible flats so you can join in on a game of tag or catch some fireflies.

Out of all the looks, I would definitely wear number 2, I love the pattern on the top and the peach capris would make my summer tan stand out. Are these looks already for sale”

Calling all curly girlies! I have frizzy hair, and I’m proud of it. But that doesn’t stop me from doing everything in my power to get my curls under control. I’ve tried it all — from Japanese hair treatments to the most expensive salon products — and I have a very strict haircare routine. Curls are a tricky business, after all!
