In honor of fall fashion week on The Frisky, we asked you to tell us how you will develop your look this season, in the hopes of winning a fall fashion prize pack from Avon. Many of you plan on layering your summer staples to make them weather-appropriate, pulling out your cold weather staples from seasons past, and hitting up your favorite thrift stores. But there could only be one winner. And it was oceanvodka because homegirl already has her outfits planned based on the weather. Read her comment after the jump. Keep reading »
We pretty much think the last good music made came out in the ’90s — and the guys and girls of Merge Records were behind a lot of it. Indie rock bands like Superchunk, Seam, and Neutral Milk Hotel provided the soundtrack for our teenage lives and beyond.
Merge Records is special not only because of the great music it puts out, but also because the label founders are musicians themselves. Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance of Superchunk founded the label, and it’s their artist-focused aesthetic that really drives the Merge machine. Keep reading »
Last week, we asked you to pledge to lead a healthier life and help those in need, in exchange for a plush Nautica “Sleep In For The Cure” bathrobe. And the winner of the prize is bdubs629:
“In 2008 I got diagnosed with Celiac Disease where I have to eat gluten-free. Having this diagnosis take place while I was in high school was difficult, but the extra 20 pounds I gained for my senior year was horrible. Because I was finally absorbing nutrients from my food the weight was gained in about a month and a half. My ex broke up with me because I wasn’t “pretty anymore” and his friends claimed I was too fat for their group.
Now 2 years later I am in college and a totally different person. I pledge to finally start mentally healing my emotional scars! I want to exercise, not to lose weight, but get that connection with my body again! I want to stomp out the negative feelings about my body that other people have imposed on me years ago. I will be sexy! I will be healthy!”

Avon offers one-stop shopping for the woman on the go. The company offers cosmetics, skin care products, clothes, jewelry, and other accessories. For this fall, we’ve fallen in love with Avon’s Zip Up Bag — that deep plum color will add a punch to autumn neutrals. Animal jewelry is all the rage right now, and the $14.99 price of Avon’s Animal Magnetism Ring can’t be beat. The Cabochon Stretch Bracelet is another fun way to add color to your look this season. You can also bring attention to your sexy collarbone and neck with the Mixed Chain Long Necklace, which has a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Finishing off our list of Avon must-haves is the Belted Print Dress, which can also be worn as a tunic and matches the Zip Up Bag well. Find out how you can win the prize pack after the jump. Nautica is sponsoring the Susan G. Komen “Sleep In For The Cure” initiative to raise funds for breast cancer research. You see, not everyone is able to lace up their sneakers for Race For The Cure. Some people are too ill, are caring for a loved one, or simply have to work on race day. Instead, Susan G. Komen For The Cure and Nautica want participants to fight breast cancer from the comfort of their beds. That sounds like a workable plan for me. How about you? [Susan G. Komen for the Cure]
“WIN THIS! We’re giving away one plush Nautica Sleep In For The Cure bath robe, but you have to work if you want it. In the comments, tell us how you pledge to lead a healthier life and offer support to those in need by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. We’ll pick our favorite response and announce the winner Friday, Sept. 10. You must live in the U.S. or Canada to win. (Read the official rules here.) Good luck!

Last week, we told you about the first book in the new Lorien Legacies, I Am Number Four, and asked you to tell us which Legacy, or superpower, you’d like to have. In exchange for an I Am Number Four prize pack, we also asked you to tell us how you’d use your Legacy for good and evil. I’m sure it was as difficult choosing one superpower as it was choosing one winner, but josephine won for this comment: Keep reading »
Last week, we asked you to tell us your absolute worst, most disastrous hair removal tale of all time, in the hopes of winning the TRIA Laser Hair Removal System. Let’s just say that nearly every single one of the 100+ comments made me either laugh, cry out in sympathy pain, or shiver in, well, disgust. You people have gone to great lengths to remove your body hair. The stories were so unbelievable that I will be posting a roundup of the best next week, but for now, let’s get to our winner. Frankly, when I saw the words “big chunk of my labia,” I knew I had a winner. Find out which sliced-up reader won, after the jump. Keep reading »
We’re not above indulging in a little young adult fiction here at The Frisky, especially when it’s a sci-fi novel. I Am Number Four, by Pittacus Lore, is the first in the Lorien Legacies series, chronicling the trials and tribulations of nine Loric alien teens as they are hunted down by the dreaded Mogadorians, another alien race. The Loric teens have been hiding out and blending in on Earth, but the Mogadorians have ways of finding them. The first three have been killed, and Number Four is next, if he’s found. But he’s not the type to go down without a fight, just ask the high school bully. Keep reading »
Last week, we asked you to tell us why you’re the top chef of your kitchen, in the hopes of winning a copy of How to Cook Like a Top Chef. I became so hungry from reading all your comments.
