8 Reality TV Stars With Drug Problems

We were totally shocked when we saw former “America’s Next Top Model” contest Jael Strauss — who’d appeared on Cycle 8 of the series — would be appearing on a “Dr. Phil” episode devoted to her drug abuse. Since appearing on the series six years ago, Jael’s life has taken a severely downward slide. She’s been addicted to meth, and her family begs her to get help during a harrowing Dr. Phil intervention. Jael hardly looks like the beautiful girl she was just six short years ago — with pockmarked skin and bleached blond locks, she appears much older and worn out than most other 28-year-olds.

We wish her the best and hope that Thursday’s episode of “Dr. Phil” gets her the help she needs. Jael is hardly the only reality TV star to slide into addiction — let’s review…

“Celebrity Wife Swap” Is Going To Happen

“Celebrity Wife Swap” is going to happen, people: ABC is currently casting celebs for six episodes of “Wife Swap,” the show where two families trade moms and lifestyles for a week. We can probably expect “Celebrity Wife Swap” to be similar—just thinner, richer and most likely more crazy. Keep reading »

Girl Sues “Wife Swap” For, Like, Totally Ruining Her Life

A New York 18-year-old named Alicia Guastafarro is suing “Wife Swap” for $100 million smackers, claiming that the show ruined her life. Alicia was a former Little Miss Buffalo and says that the show intentionally manipulated reality to make her look like an uber-brat. She claims that many scenes in the show were scripted—for example, she was asked to repeat the line “I am the most popular girl in school” over and over, and was instructed to angrily give her cereal back to her stand-in mama because it wasn’t up to her standards. The show aired three years ago, and Alicia claims that afterward, she was the victim of “incessant verbal and physical assaults from her peers” and had to finish high school in a solo program. The suit claims, “For their own profit, defendants purposefully, intentionally and knowingly caused severe emotional and psychological harm to a fragile 15-year-old.” Sure, the producers on the show acted icks, but what else is new? It is ridiculous in this day and age that anyone thinks reality TV is really real. And, really, you think there was $100 million worth of damages here? Besides, maybe she should sue her parents instead — after all, they’re the one who decided to put her through this mess. Our recommendation to Alicia is to go to college—no one will remember her there or care that she appeared on “Wife Swap” three years ago. And beware of signing up for reality TV in the future. Crazy Idea: What If The “Real Housewives” Did “Wife Swap”?

I, like so many of you, relished last week’s season premiere of the “Real Housewives of Orange County,” the original gangsta of Bravo’s “Housewives” franchise. (You know you can’t wait to watch tonight.) But the fact that they aired the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion special beforehand gave me an interesting idea: what if Bravo started their own version of “Wife Swap”? You know, switched the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” with the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” and … “Watch what happens.” Let Danielle lay down a few tracks in Kandi’s studio. Let Dina and Caroline do a karaoke cover of “Tardy For the Party.” Let Teresa and Kim trade wigs for the week. Have Dwight give Caroline a makeover. Oh, maybe, Dina could take over Sheree’s clothing line for a week? Keep reading »
