Dominique Strauss-Kahn is crying into his champagne: politicians are considering a ban on prostitution in France. The law would make it illegal to pay for sex, punishing johns with six month prison sentences and $4,000 fines. Currently a john will only be punished if the prostitute is underage or “particularly vulnerable,” such as from illness; pimping is also illegal. Keep reading »

  • Stephen Hanks, the Hollywood agent/sexist d-bag who screamed at Bristol Palin that her mother is a “whorey whoreface whore,” issued an apology statement to E! News through his lawyer. “I am very passionate about politics, and believe in equality for all Americans,” Hanks said. “I expressed my feelings in an improper manner in the heat of the moment, and allowed my emotions to get the better of me.” [Gossip Cop]
  • Angelina Jolie took Shiloh and Zahara to get their ears pierced at a boutique in London. Shiloh backed out at the last minute, though, after Zahara “screamed” and burst into tears getting hers done. A drama queen, just like her mother! [US Weekly]

Today’s Lady News: California Candidate Meg Whitman Gets Called A “Whore”

  • An aide for California’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate called Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate, a “whore” on a voicemail which was accidentally left on a phone. According to the transcript, it sounds like the aide was specifically trying to say Whitman is a whore for pension reform. Whitman’s campaign released a statement calling it “an insult to both Meg Whitman and to the women of California.” [KPSP, Los Angeles Times]
  • A so-called “crisis pregnancy center” in Wisconsin, which pretends to offer family planning services but in actuality dissuades women from abortion, has paid for a billboard depicting a teen girl and a fetus in her belly. A thought bubble coming from the teen girl reads, “My mom’s going to kill me” and one from the fetus said, “My mom REALLY is going to KILL ME.” Some locals said the billboard is upsetting to young children who may read the sign, but Bay Area Pregnancy Services said it does not think that it’s inappropriate.   • Sigma Gamma Rho, an African-American sorority, has been accused by students at two different colleges (Rutgers in New Jersey and San Jose State in CA) for “hazing” pledges by beating them with wooden paddles. [New York Times]

  • DVDs of the Swedish version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” are being sent to rape crisis centers and college groups around the country as an inspirational flick for victims of sexual violence.   • Bikini-clad strippers protested outside of a church in Warsaw, Ohio, on Sunday after members of the church protested outside of their strip club.
