This whimsical ornament chandelier would be a great way to display those extra ornaments that are rolling around the bottom of your Christmas decorations box, but it would be even more fun to hit the thrift store and craft a chandelier out of the most ridiculous ornaments you can find. Can you imagine a sparkling bundle of Dollywood souvenir ornaments? Talk about a conversation piece. [Real Simple]

I try to be as eco-friendly as possible in most areas of my life, but sometimes my penchant for procrastination overpowers my desire to be green. Example: pretty much every Christmas eve, when I realize I forgot to get any kind of gift-wrapping materials and end up buying a pile of made-in-China plastic gift bags at the dollar store and feeling terrible. This year I’m taking a different route and crafting some of these recycled newspaper gift bags. They’re funky, colorful, earth-friendly, and almost free: what’s better than that? [Yours Truly, G]

Looking for a simple DIY centerpiece for your Thanksgiving table? These gourd vases are not only easy to make, they look absolutely beautiful filled with fresh fall flowers. Just cut the top off a squash, hollow it out, and reward yourself for being so crafty by mashing up the innards with some butter and brown sugar. Because edible vases are the best kind of vases. [BHG]

OK, this week’s project does require a bit of sewing knowledge (or a friend with some sewing knowledge who will help you out in exchange for a mimosa), but  if you can pull it off, the end result is the most adorable little coin purse ever. I’d love to whip up a colorful batch of these and give them to my girlfriends for Christmas. Along with some edible macarons, of course. [Craft Passion]

Just because Halloween is over doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy some of the awesome flavors of the season, like caramel apples and vodka. Yep, with a little creativity, clever use of a melon baller, and some gelatin, you can reinvent the traditional caramel apple as a sweet alcoholic treat. Best party food ever. [Buzzfeed]

If you’re planning to hole up in your apartment this weekend to seek shelter from the SNOWICANE, well, there’s no better time to put on a favorite movie and do some DIY beauty treatments. I’m pretty excited to try this chocolate facial, partly because it’s packed with good-for-your-skin ingredients like cocoa, honey, and coconut oil, but mostly because it’s totally lickable. Oh, candy corn: every September, I get so excited about it, and then I eat a few handfuls and spend the afternoon with a disgusting waxy sugar headache, cursing the day it was created. I’ve been trying to steer clear of candy corn this year, but cookies are a whole different story, and I love the idea of translating the charming, iconic candy corn design into a festive sugar cookie. So cute. [Sweet Sugar Belle]

This month I’m hoping to fill every possible moment with pumpkin-themed activities: pumpkin carving parties, pumpkin patch adventures, pumpkin dessert potlucks, pumpkin-launching catapult shenanigans, etc. And I didn’t know it until now, but none of these activities would be complete without the glorious presence of a PUMPKIN KEG. Apparently it’s super easy to make your own, although the tutorial recommends Sam Adams Octoberfest beer, while I think the occasion clearly calls for a pumpkin ale. But hey, if you really want to get the party started, fill it with pumpkin pie-infused vodka. Cheers to fall! [Celebrations]

The other day, my friend Becca and I were talking about how much we miss being in school sometimes, particularly those moments when you’re sitting in class and have some huge epiphany about society or media or social justice and you’re like, “Oh my god, I have to tell the world RIGHT NOW.” Although I won’t be joining those of you headed back to campus this month, I will be enthusiastically stocking up on school office supplies, and thanks to this clever tutorial, I can’t wait to turn a couple 99-cent composition books into chalkboard notebooks, perfect for recipes, random brainstorms, and world-changing manifestos. One of my interior design dreams has always been to have an old school card catalog in my house. I’d love to use it for organizing recipes, jewelry, craft supplies, or just general storage. I could spend hours scouring garage sales to find an antique one, plunk down some serious cash for a reproduction, or better yet, I could craft my own. This tutorial uses IKEA drawers, but you could use any light-wood drawers–just add some wood stain and brass labels and ta-da! You’ve got a fabulous storage space guaranteed to impress your librarian friends! [The Painted Hive]
