DIY lip balm

When it’s hot and humid, I’m a big believer that the best makeup routine is a bit of mascara and a constantly reapplied sheen of lip balm (although if you want to add in a couple more products, our beauty guru Rachel has some great tips). I’ve never made my own lip balm before, but judging by this recipe, it’s the easiest thing in the world, and also super cheap (one of the ingredients is “a squirt of Kool-Aid”). I think it’s time to whip up a batch for myself. Care to join me? [Style Me Pretty]

I’ve been wearing denim cutoffs nonstop for the past couple months, and I love it (my ideal summer outfit is basically a Never Nude costume), but sometimes I look down and notice my legs are a bit … less than luminous. This weekend I’m really excited to try this DIY silky legs scrub, which is made of super cheap ingredients you probably already have around your house — sugar, lemon juice, and oil. The result? Legs that are soft, smooth, and ready to show off. [Krysta's Life In Food]

As I learned this past weekend, nothing makes you as keenly aware of thin, uncomfortable purse straps like a nasty sunburn on your shoulder. I love my bag, but damn, those skinny straps have got to go. This morning I stumbled across an easy (and super cute!) solution: this DIY purse strap cushion tutorial. All you need is a little scrap of cardboard and a bit of lace to make any bag instantly more wearable. Your shoulders will thank you. [Making Life Beautiful]

Embarking on a Memorial Day road trip this weekend? All those sweaty passengers and pungent snack foods make for a fun journey, but they can also leave your car smelling … not so fresh. Instead of buying a new air freshener, try making your own eco-friendly version using wool felt and essential oils. You can customize the scent and shape to your liking, and when it loses its potency, it’s totally reusable — just add more oil! [Crafting A Green World]

Have an old T-shirt lying around that could use a makeover? Toughen up that T with this easiest of easy DIYs: all you need is a handful of rivets and a piece of chalk to map out their placement. I’d style up my studded t-shirt with cutoff jeans (always), black ballet flats, and cat eye sunglasses. Summer fashion with an edge? Yes, please! [Project 22]

This Weekend Project isn’t so much a project as one-step tip that will help you organize the terrifying jungle of cords that are bundled up behind your desk and TV stand. Collect bread tags and label cords at each end to cut out all that time you spend trying to figure out where in the hell your monitor cord ends and your modem cord begins. So simple. So brilliant.
