Demi Moore Does W

Did 47-year-old Demi Moore make some kind of pact with the Devil, and that’s why she looks so hot on the cover of the December issue of W? Maybe. I think it’s the yoga. Our fashion editor Erin thinks Photoshop hath tweaked her. Perhaps it’s both. Regardless, Mrs. Ashton Kutcher says getting work in Hollywood at her age isn’t easy, no matter how famous she is. “The frustrating part is that the type of roles I’d be interested in are not really coming to me,” reveals Moore. “I hate to say it’s a function of my age — but yes, I think in some ways it is. The majority of [female] roles are geared between 25 and 35.” More pics after the jump! Keep reading »

Dead Women Are So, Like, Hot

Is this pretty lady just taking a nap against the bumper of that jalopy? Or is the September issue of W magazine relying on that tasteless staple of high-fashion pictorials — dead models? Really, we get that it’s arty and provocative. But when violence against women is a rampant problem out here in “real life,” it can be hard to see the beauty in images depicting dead or dying women. Sure, poor taste is kind of W‘s thing—the mag also did a photo shoot of “homeless chic” models lying on Prada bags.

After the jump, another W pic of a sexy, sexy snakebite victim! Keep reading »

Your Chance At Photography Fame

If you think you’re the next Steven Klein or Mert and Marcus, then W magazine is ready to give you a chance. Starting tomorrow, the fashion magazine will accept submissions on their website for their first ever photography contest, “W: The Art Project.” The theme is obsession, so be prepared to fully consume your life with that one fixation you so love in order to submit the perfect picture.

From what we imagine will be a countless number of submissions, a panel of judges will pick only twenty, but the public is going to have the final say of just which photographer’s talent is high fashion magazine worthy. (AKA, beg and plead every person you’ve ever met to vote for you.) The prize for that one lucky winner not only includes a published moment in the glossy, but also a brand new camera and a three-month mentorship from art consultant Blair Voltz Clarke. Go quickly tell all your aspiring photographer friends. [NYMag.com] Keep reading »

Uma Thurman Graces The Cover Of W Magazine With Her Magnificence

Statuesque actress Uma Thurman, 39, does the cover of W magazine and sits for a feature profile inside. We meet her two children with ex-husband Ethan Hawke (Levon, 7, and Maya, 11), tour her Greenwich Village townhouse, and hear about her fiancé, financier Arpad “Arki” Busson. Because no actress would talk to the media without something to promote, she’s hawking her upcoming movie, “Motherhood,” in which she plays a … mommy blogger? “Kill Bill” it is not. She refuses to trash-talk Hawke, doesn’t have a wedding date set yet, and rocks an engagement ring that could put your eye out. After the jump, a few images from the Steven Klein-shot layout. W Magazine Pulls A Zoolander Derelicte

Leave it to a fashion magazine. In any other medium, exploring homelessness would entail in-depth interviews, following up with local politicians and including a quote or two from national charity organizations. For W magazine, it meant draping model Sasha Pivovarova in tissue paper from Dior, paper bags from Prada and odds and ends from Chanel. W gets brownie points for an interesting concept and — per usual — beautiful imagery. But are we the only ones who think a chic twist on homelessness is in poor taste? More outrageous images after the jump, and um, you tell us. Keep reading »

Bruce Willis And New Wife Emma Get Freaky For W Magazine

Holy crackers. I saw the first of these photos featuring Bruce Willis and his newish wife Emma in the July issue of W magazine, and I was like, Wahh? They are weird. But, hey! Whatever floats your boat. Of course, they’re shot by Steven Klein, who’s always doing strange things. The header reads: “For years Bruce Willis vowed he’d never marry again. Then the movie star met sizzling Emma Heming, and she changed his mind—and his life.” Apparently! At the imaginary Honeymoon Hotel, Emma dons full fur head-and-body gear to straddle a practically naked Bruce in the kitchen. After that, they do a bunch of other kinky stuff. Mostly, Emma wanders around looking like a young Demi and Bruce sort of lets it happen. I don’t know. It’s all a little disconcerting. In the accompanying profile of the couple, they talk about making out in public, how Bruce went from “F— love” to “Love is truly the answer,” and hanging out with Ashton Kutcher. Did you know Bruce used to stutter? True story. [W] Keep reading »

Ginnifer Goodwin Goes Bad For W Magazine

Ginnifer Goodwin appears to be pulling a Rihanna by attempting to break out of her good girl image to be a bad girl for fashion photographer Steven Klein in the latest issue of W. As polygamist wife Margene on HBO’s “Big Love,” it’s rare to see the 31-year-old “Southern belle” in anything less than the latest plural marriage fashions, but here she oozes sex in black leather and an Amy Winehouse wig while running around with a few greased up dudes showing of their 12-pack abs. In the accompanying interview, Goodwin talks about her newfound veganism, her breakup last year with actor Chris Klein, and her proper Tennessee upbringing that fostered a “prim” relationship to sex (she says she’s got “iron panties”). Plus, she reveals what she thought of the provocative images that accompany the profile: “I’m positive people don’t see me this way. They think I am Margene or Gigi. I was delighted that what I saw was so against what people would call ‘my type.’” Up next? A role in designer Tom Ford’s much-anticipated directorial debut and a turn in the movie adaptation of Beverly Cleary’s Beezus and Ramona. After the jump, some of the racy pics. [W] Keep reading »

Blame It On Madonna

For the March issue of W, Madonna gets all cougar-esque and heads to Rio de Janeiro for some hot and heavy time with boy toy Jesus Luz. Purportedly, Madonna and Jesus (with those names, they’re surely a match made in heaven — or, well, celebrity hell) were or are dating or canoodling or humping or whatever it is famous people do these days. Jesus is a model, and the two are seen cavorting in this bazillion-page layout in the Hotel Gloria in Brazil, where Steven Klein shot their pictures. At the time of the shoot, a Brazilian website opined: “Everyone knows they are ficando — which is a Portuguese expression that means they are kissing and doing other things but without any obligation of being faithful or getting into a relationship afterwards.” So much for A-Rod! Take that, Guy. Madonna is on the prowl. Mothers, lock up your manchildren. After the jump, what went on behind the scenes. Keep reading »

Quote Of The Day: Brad Pitt Makes Angelina Jolie Feel Sexy, Blah, Blah, Blah

“I’m with a man who’s evolved enough to look at my body and see it as more beautiful because of the journey it has taken and what it has created. He genuinely sees it that way. So I genuinely feel sexier.” — Angelina Jolie in W Keep reading »
