“Life is not fair. One can either accept that fact, keeling over in defeat; or one can harness the strength to fight against it. My destiny was to fight against the unfairness of the world.” – Elliot Rodger
On Friday night a man stabbed and killed three men in his apartment, got into his car, drove through the postcard-pretty college town of Isla Vista, California, and killed three more people while injuring 13 others.
He was Not All Men, of course, just a deeply disturbed, homicidal 22-year old who has been identified as Elliot Rodger.
Before I write anything, I first need to pause and offer my sincerest condolences to the loved ones of those who were killed. Like the rest of the world, I am also heartsick for those who were injured and traumatized by this attack. Nothing anyone can do or say will ever bring them back and that is a tragedy no words will ever rectify. Keep reading »
Last night, six people were killed by a lone gunman, believed to be Elliot Rodger, 22, in the town of Isla Vista, California, near UC Santa Barbara. Seven more were injured and the shooter was shot and killed by police. While investigators have not officially confirmed that Rodger was the shooter, or released the names of the victims, there is ample video and written evidence to suggest that Rodger carried out a pre-meditated mass murder, as detailed in a YouTube video titled “Elliot Rodger’s Retribution.” The video features Rodger sitting in his car, detailing his life of “loneliness, rejection, and unfulfilled desires,” specifically blaming women for not welcoming his advances, angry that he was still a virgin. The reasoning behind his intended mass murder is textbook sexist MRA (men’s rights activists) bullshit at its most entitled and violent. Keep reading »
One hundred kidnapped Nigerian school girls have allegedly been seen for the first time since their abduction in a video acquired by the AFP news service. The video was reportedly filmed by Boko Haram, the Islamist extremist group who kidnapped over 200 teenaged girls from their boarding school in Chibok on April 14.
In the 17-minute video, the 100 girls wear veils and pray in Arabic; the video is cut with narration by someone from Boko Haram declaring that the girls have been “saved” by a conversion to Islam. (According to the Associated Press, the majority of the girls are Christians.) Boko Haram also reportedly kidnapped eight more girls from a different Nigerian village last week. The leader of Boko Haram has vowed to sell all the girls as wives, i.e. sold into sex slavery but recently said he would release the school girls in exchange for prisoners. [AP; Reuters]
