It’s been, let’s see, almost three months since I’ve gotten laid. I’ve done a little making out, but in general, most of my sexual satisfaction these days is from watching “True Blood” every Sunday on HBO. It’s been a big year for vampires, but an even bigger one for vampire sex, which has got everyone from teenagers and Midwestern moms, to geek fan boys and, um, twentysomething bloggers obsessed with how they have it (“True Blood”) and how they resist having it (in “Twilight”). In both of these examples, the human is female and the vampire is male. That’s given some the idea that the vampire sex is bad for women because it fetishizes the meshing of sex, violence, and romance. To that I say, whatevs. If this fantasy is bad for women, well, then it’s good for me. Keep reading »

The front page of the latest New York Times Style section is plastered with the faces of sexy vampires. Not that vampires are not the “it” sex symbols of the moment, but whenever the Times writes about something, that thing has inevitably jumped the shark. Not that I think the blood suckers from “Twilight” are going to be disappearing any time soon, but I think vampires have reached their zenith. I wish “True Blood” many more seasons of sex and sucking, but vampire culture is past its prime. The real question is, what is the next supernatural creature millions of girls will lust after? After a thorough and exhausting inventory of the non-human hotties out there, I bring you your next fantasy. Keep reading »
Last night’s episode of “True Blood” was fantastic — we finally found out whether or not Lafayette had been turned into a vampire, Sookie was attacked by some weird creature that left her with gnarly claw marks down her back, and a romance blossomed between new vampire Jessica and adorable local gentleman, Hoyt. Mary Anne also had another icky orgy party, we got to see Tara’s new boyfriend’s rockin’ abs, and we fully began to appreciate Eric the Vampire’s David Beckham-esque makeover. Even though there weren’t any Sookie/Bill sex scenes, this was still the best episode of Season 2. More gushing, and some questions, after the jump… Keep reading »
I was a little skeptical about “The Vampire Diaries” until I watched this teaser. I thought the CW was just trying to capitalize on the vampire resurgence in the cheesy way that only that network can. But I was wrong. This trailer gave me the same excitement I had when I first saw “True Blood” and read the Twilight series. You can bet we’ll cover “The Vampire Diaries” in the fall once it premieres. Will you watch the show? Or are sick of vampires already? Keep reading »
It’s fun to look at men’s fashion show photos, if only to look at the models and their taut bodies. But the guys walking at Gareth Pugh, John Galliano, and Alexander McQueen didn’t look hot. No, they looked scary. In fact, they looked a lot like zombies. Could this be a pop culture trend in the making? Are zombies going to become the new vampires? One pop culture seems to think so. Or maybe the models are just depressed about the grim state of the economy. [NY Mag] Keep reading »
I’ve been waiting for it, and finally, Sarah Haskins has targeted vampires, specifically the mania surrounding “Twilight.” Is Edward Cullen really the perfect boyfriend? Fans at a “Twilight” book signing try to convince her that he is. Hilarious! Keep reading »
This year was full of surprise comebacks from celebrities to TV shows to vampires. We didn’t expect quite a few of these pop culture comebacks, but thankfully, we were happy to see them. Keep reading »
Late last night, while I was up watching TV and craving macaroni and cheese, I caught the world’s most awesome episode of “The Tyra Show” that aired originally on Halloween. Crazy ass Ty-Ty interviewed a ton of “real life vampires” about their blood drinking lifestyle. Most of the guests were your garden variety Dracula wannabes, but my favorite was Sarah, who says she doesn’t crave blood because it’s “cliche and rudimentary.” She says she was born a vampire, but doesn’t like to hang out with other vampires and would rather spend her time with “other sorts.” She also says she is psychic, can go days without eating and just feeds off other peoples’ “energy”, thinks sex is gross, prefers hardcore hip-hop like Too Short to The Cure, and enjoys watching “America’s Next Top Model.” She seems like fun to me. I kind of want to hang out with her. Call me Sarah! Keep reading »
This weekend “Biography” highlights the four key players in the presidential election, just in time for Election Day, this Tuesday November 4th. And if you’re as enthralled with the resurgence of vampire culture as we are, check out the BIO channel on Saturday for “Secret Life of Vampires” at 5 pm. The program will be a study of vampire legends and the impact on pop culture. On Sunday you can watch “True Blood,” which dispels some vampire legends and fully embraces others. See what other Frisky-esque shows are airing this weekend after the jump. Keep reading »
