Could Moon Boots Become The New Uggs?

So, um, Grazia magazine says that moon boots are making a comeback and are the way to stay warm and in fashion: “Think ‘Charlie’s Angels’ meets Christie Brinkley!” OK, at least that style description makes things a little bit more conceivable. Problem is, not everyone is Christie Brinkley, and wearing these contraptions can create that Japanese anime cartoon look where your proportions are all thrown off thanks to huuuuuuge feet.

We remember these boots making a brief appearance among the fashion set in ’06 or so, and maybe they just couldn’t compete with the Ugg at that point. But now that Uggs are officially fugs, what do you think of moon boots? [Grazia] Keep reading »

Looks like someone has been dipping into the unflattering trend pool of yore. Leighton Meester was spotted on the set of “Gossip Girl” making a change from what appears to be the high heels of her costume to a pair of Uggs on her break. (Unless Blair has some scene where she’s trying to be ironic? Doubtful.) Seems everyone except for Jessica Simpson has put Uggs on the banned fashions list, and we know a lot of girls who wouldn’t be caught dead in the winter boots (we really would have thought Leighton would be in that group).

But, you gotta admit … they are super warm and comfy. Like walking on clouds! So come clean—do you still have those pink Uggs circa 2003 in your closet? Break them out from time to time? [Um, yes, yes I do. -- Editor] In public? Blair would never! Keep reading »

Bootie Pies: Convenience I Don’t Understand

I was flipping through New York magazine at the gym last night and was absolutely puzzled when I came across a small ad for something called “Bootie Pies.” These boots are made for wearing during the winter after you get a pedicure. The company means well. They don’t want your newly painted nails to get smushed in shoes, or for your feet to get frostbite from wearing flip-flops home from the salon. But the aesthetics just aren’t there. Basically, the boots are Uggs with a removal toe covering. They also have a zipper in the back that allows you to slip your foot in easily. It’s true that peep-toe booties are in right now, but these don’t fall into that category (and that trend is questionable anyway). Why spend $128 on ugly boots when you can just spend an extra 5 minutes at the drying station? If it snows, your Bootie Pies certainly won’t protect your tootsies. [Bootie Pies] Keep reading »
