Epic “Australia’s Next Top Model” Fail

Did you know that Tyra Banks’ “Top Model” franchise has spread across the globe and that there are versions of the show in a bunch of other countries? Well, the Australian version of the show is gonna be getting a call from Banks, I’ll bet, after the epic fail that was their finale episode of the most recent season. This time, viewers and a live audience got to choose the winner and when the time came to announce the results, producers accidentally gave the host the wrong name. In the video above, 19-year-old Kelsey is thanking the crowd for voting her “Australia’s Next Top Model,” when host Sarah Murdoch suddenly is informed by ear piece that, OOPSIES, the winner is actually the other chick, Amanda. This is a live television nightmare turned into reality. Someone’s gettin’ a Tyra-talkin’-to. [via Dlisted] Keep reading »

Extremely Thin Girl Cast — And Then Cast Off — “America’s Next Top Model”

Before Cycle 15 of “America’s Next Top Model” even began, much fuss was made about Ann, a tall and gawky contestant with the most narrow waist in the world. But after last night’s episode, it’s clear that the model to truly be concerned about is Anamaria, 19, who, at 5’10″ and 110 lbs., thinks she needs to be “leaner” and is on a “calorie-restricted diet.” Though Tyra and crew cast the beautiful but extremely underweight and sinewy blonde on the show — after seeing her in a bathing suit during casting, mind you — her thinness became a strike against her in last night’s episode, as the models were photographed in barely any clothes. I, for one, found the whole thing extremely uncomfortable — should Anamaria have been cast in the first place? Did Tyra and the producers have an obligation to intervene? And — SPOILER ALERT! — did they do a disservice to her and the viewers by eliminating her from the competition as soon as they “realized” her thinness was a problem and that it reflected badly on them? “Top Model”‘s Classy Makeover Is Missing One Thing

“America’s Next Top Model” is supposedly getting a “high-class makeover” for its 15th “cycle,” which premieres September 8th. Last season, the long-running series debuted a new judge, Vogue‘s posh-accented and imposing Andre Leon Talley, and he, well, seemed a touch out of place amongst the otherwise campy production. So this season, instead of winning a spread in Seventeen (the show’s former print partner), the winner will get a spread in Vogue Italia, which is a big high-fashion step up. Additionally, the show will have more well-respected guest judges joining Talley and Tyra on the panel, like photographers Patrick Demarchelier and Francesco Carrozzini, and designers Zac Posen and Roberto Cavelli. All of this does add up to a pretty classy makeover for the show, which has, let’s face it, been running out of steam. Still, there’s one more tweak that needs to be made in order for “Top Model” to be taken seriously — FIRE JAY MANUEL. The silver-haired Oompa Loompa’s utterly asinine “creative direction” has got to go. [Deadline] Keep reading »

Get Ready For “America’s Next Top Circus Freak”

It’s “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 15 trailer time … and I’m scared. Based on what I’ve seen so far, I’m thinking they should re-name the show “America’s Next Top Circus Freak.” Keep reading »

Tyra Banks Returns To Modeling With A New Set Of Polaroids

We heard Tyra Banks was re-signing with her old modeling agency, IMG, but didn’t really believe it until we saw her new set of Polaroids. The photos were shot on a neutral background with very little makeup, and TyTy is looking smokin’ hot. Though Tyra doesn’t plan to attempt to resume her long-dormant runway career, she wrote on her website: “I’m not coming out of modeling retirement… IMG is such a huge company, there are many things I will be doing with them. Some fashion-related, but don’t expect to see me at any go-sees!” Any ideas what else she might be doing with the agency that would require pics of her in her skivvies? Check out a few more photos after the jump. [Styleite] Keep reading »

Quotable: Tyra Banks Was Shaking While Interviewing Barack Obama

“I was so nervous, sick to my stomach and my hands were shaking. I asked him to look into the crystal ball and said, ‘What do you see in your future, Senator?’ And without hesitation he replied, ‘The White House.’ That clip ran on CNN and every national morning show. I’ll never forget being a part of political history.”

“America’s Next Top Model” Finale: The Battle Of The Eyebrows

America’s Next Top Model” has been on for 14 cycles now. At this point, we all know the show’s tropes by heart: At least one girl will always be late after the go-see challenge. The ugly duckling always becomes a swan. The girl dubbed “commercial” doesn’t have a chance. Someone will always have an on-camera meltdown during the final CoverGirl commercial. At this point, I’ve watched the show long enough to have determined that the second girl shown in a solo interview in each episode is INVARIABLY the one eliminated. Don’t believe me? Watch. It is just a fact. And yet, the magic of “ANTM” is that, even though we can easily predict what is going to happen, we still watch and are even surprised. Keep reading »

Tyra Banks Writing Young Adult Novel Where Models Can Do Magic, Or Something

Remember how Tyra Banks hinted that the reason she was ending her talk show was because she wanted to try out other forms of media and everyone assumed she meant movies? Well, she may have meant that, but she also is interested in writing. That’s right, TyTy is releasing her first book and the subject matter is something familiar to her — and us. Modelland is a young adult fantasy novel that is described as Harry Potter meets “America’s Next Top Model.” Tyra is a wizard for figuring out that such a ridonculous idea is even possible! Tyra Talks To The Interracial Couple Denied A Marriage License In Louisiana

Yesterday on “The Tyra Show,” Tyra talked to the interracial couple who was denied a marriage license by a Louisiana justice of the peace last year. Beth Humphrey, who is white, described how she called about a license for her and Terence McKay, who is black, and the woman she spoke to on the phone asked, “Is this an interracial marriage?” Then they were informed this justice only marries couples of the same race. (The justice, Keith Bardwell, said he was “not a racist” but was only concerned for “the children” — because duh, everyone knows you can’t make interracial babies without getting married first.)

Tyra Is Officially Trying To Harm The “Top Models”

Tyra Banks, you’re so mean. On last night’s episode of “America’s Next Top Model,” TyTy had the models stomp the runway in sexy, tight Rachel Roy gowns, while huge clock gongs swung at them. I suppose it was meant to be an exercise in timing your strut, but one model failed badly — twice! First she tumbled down the stairs approaching the runway, then she was knocked off the runway by one of the swinging pendulums. Model down!

After a bajillion seasons, I am seriously finally tiring of this show. If it weren’t for the new judge, Vogue‘s Andre Leon Talley, who has a hilarious faux Euro accent and talks about having a salon (SA-lon, as he pronounces it) in his apartment, I would be over this shizz. Keep reading »
