Imagine you’re on the subway, preparing yourself for the day — a desk full of dreaded reports and emails ahead of you — and suddenly AHHHHHHH! Tyra Banks and her fleet of be-masked minions comes ambling toward you down the subway car. How terrifying! Ms. Tyra was doing it all in promotion of her new young adult novel, Modelland, which we can only assume is about the real life travails of being young and fabulous. But really TyTy, wait until I’ve had my coffee, please. Keep reading »
Professional models don’t get to choose what they model, but they do have to model through it no matter what. Even if what they’re contracted to wear happens to be a ridiculous tiny hat, say. “America’s Next Top Model” creator and host Tyra Banks knows this, and she frequently chastises her model-testants for not putting their all into their photos. We thought TyTy might have something to say to these tiny hat models, so we phoned her up to get her professional opinions on these tiny hat shots. First up, Erica, sporting this Kentucky Dainty Hair Clip ($15.99, Modcloth).
Tyra Says: I feel a sadness in your eyes that doesn’t connect me with the photo. More smizing, less dreckitude!
After the jump, Tyra critiques more tiny hat models. Keep reading »
It’s hard to believe that “America’s Next Top Model” has been around for 16 cycles. If there were 13 girls a season (and I’m pretty sure that many seasons had 14) that makes 208 wannabe models on the show whose names we learned, faces we dissected, and breakdowns we reveled in. So it’s fitting that the next season will be “America’s Next Top Model All-Stars.” In other words, there will be no new perfectly symmetrical faces. The cast will be comprised of the girls you loved and the ones you loved to hate in seasons past, each hoping to win the title and its prizes the second time around.
Slowly, we’re starting to get information on who is joining cast. Unfortunately some of are favorites are not on the list. Jade tweeted, “I declined #ANTM cycle 17 immensely because my contract was completely Bogus and one sided! These girl’s just signed there Rights and Life away!” But we’re still overall pleased. After the jump, the rumored new cast.

Recognize that pretty/awkward face? It’s Ann Ward, winner of Tyra Banks’ Cycle 15 of “America’s Next Top Model.” Here she is in her as-promised May 2011 Vogue Italia shoot, looking all deer in headlights. Embarrassingly, the announcement of an “America’s Next Top Model” all-star season is the thing I am most excited about today. I will confess that I have seen every single episode of all 16 cycles (as has Amelia … sorry for outing you). It’s awful, I know. But it is like reality crack to me. The CW has confirmed that Cycle 17 will bring back models from previous seasons to compete again. Jumping up and down. Screaming. Clapping. Why hasn’t Tyra thought of this sooner? Here is my dream team of returning model hopefuls: Elyse Sewell (Cycle 1), Shandi Sullivan (Cycle 2), Toccara Jones (Cycle 3), Tiffany Richardson (Cycle 4 — the girl that Tyra went postal on), Lisa D’Amato (Cycle 5 — the drunk), Kim Stolz (Cycle 5), Jade Cole (Cycle 6), Isis King (Cycle 11), Allison Harvard (Cycle 12), Sundai Love (Cycle 13 — just because her name is amazing). Which “ANTM” contestants would you like to see compete again? Share your favorites in the comments. [NY Mag] Keep reading »
Every year on “America’s Next Top Model
,” Tyra Banks
inevitably has the contestants do an acting challenge where she trots out her “acting coach.” In this cycle 16 promo, Tyra proves that she actually can sort of act, and has decent comedic timing, as she mocks some of the most common types who appear at “ANTM” casting—the squealing girly girl, the goth who doesn’t want to be there, the girl who’s “not here to make friends.” Best line: “I will do anything, anything, anything to be America’s Next Top Model. Except cut my hair.” True dat. Keep reading »
On last night’s “America’s Next Top Model
,” rather than have the final four model wannabes do yet another photo shoot, Tyra Banks
challenged them to do what she called a “motion advertorial.” So, uh, what is that? One of those high-falutin commercials you sometimes see on fashion designers’ websites, complete with trippy visuals and moody music. The most exciting part of this challenge was that Tyra directed the commercial herself, making this her directorial debut. “I was really nervous about directing the girls in motion for the first time. I have to tell you that I have a whole new respect for directors through this process! It looks easy, but it ain’t,” she said. Keep reading »
Recognize that pretty face from “Mad Men“‘s Sunday night season finale? That’s because she’s Cassandra Whitehead, who appeared on Cycle 5 of “America’s Next Top Model.” Cassandra infamously stormed off the show after Miss Tyra cut her long brown locks into a short ‘do. After appearing on “ANTM,” she went on to have parts in “Fast & Furious” and “One Tree Hill,” and won $500,000 on the game show “1 vs. 100.” Cassandra’s proof that the most successful “ANTM” alums aren’t always the ones who come out “on top.” After the jump, the most successful (and notorious) “ANTM” contestants. And tell us who your favorite is.
was not “smeyesing” when she heard about a possible lawsuit headed her way. Beverly McClendon, mother of self-proclaimed teen sex addict Jewel Ciera Washington has filed a complaint that “The Tyra Show” broke Georgia state labor laws by neglecting to notify her of her 15-year-old daughter Jewel’s appearance on the show. This what Tyra wore to Vogue‘s 90th Anniversary Party last night. The theme was “masquerade,” so I guess this fishnet monstrosity is TyTy’s idea of a mask. Best of all, this ain’t no HIGH-FASHION designer fishnet face mask — Tyra DIYed this herself! She wrote on her Twitter:
So FRENCH VOGUE mask is sum cheap FISHNET stockings I got n crazy store n Paris! I cut em up n made it y’all. N did my ow hair n makeup.
The question is, what would Andre Leon Talley say? [Dlisted] Keep reading »
