“Even world famous rappers have first world problems,” says the tagline for this amaaaaaazing Tumblr, featuring illustrator Ali Graham’s depictions of Jay-Z’s imagined “99 Problems.” Click through to see 12 of our favorites — including “No Toilet Roll” and “Broken Umbrella (Ella Ella)” — and the rest over at her blog, which updates with new and hilarious illustrations regularly. Remind me again why cardboard cutouts of celebrities and film characters exist and are available for purchase? Oh, wait, nevermind, somebody else beat you to it, and it’s whoever made it their life’s mission to chronicle the mundane daily activities of Severus Snape. Aside from teaching Potions, Professor Snape also enjoys sulking on Valentine’s Day, going trick or treating, playing hide and seek, running on the treadmill, and basking in the great outdoors. He even wakes up in strange locations covered in glitter and awash in unidentified pills, like me on
Tuesday Saturday morning! He’s just like one of us! Except better, being that he is the Half Blood Prince and all. [Snape Does Things]
The blog Weird Dude Energy is exactly what it sounds like: Weird dude stuff. Amazing weird dude stuff. All kinds of weird dude stuff. Basically, it might be the best thing that ever happened to me. Oh, you like cheesy pick up artists demonstrating how to win over girls with “astrology bullshit”? There’s a video for you. Strange SIMS fight sequences? Yup. Lil B The Based God teaching girls how to cook? You got it. All that and a man playing an arcade game in a picaresque stream can be found at Weird Dude Energy.
Did you say you wanted to see a guy stuff five thousand kernels of popcorn down his pants? We can make that happen… Keep reading »
I’m really not sure how I feel about the new Tumblr “Exploding Actresses.” On the one hand, isn’t it slightly (totally) weird and misogynistic to depict actresses heads being violently blown up? On the other hand, maybe it’s a smart commentary about how negative, stereotypical tropes about women need to be unpacked and exploded. And on a third, completely superfluous hand, I can’t help but giggle — the same way I involuntarily laugh when somebody trips or falls down — at these cartoon-y head explosions of everyone from Belle from “Beauty and the Beast” to Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman.”
The explosions seem to have been made by Simone Rovellini, who bills himself as a “videomaker and dog petter,” and since he hasn’t given us an artist’s statement about the project, we’re left to wonder what he’s trying to achieve here. So Simone, let us know: are you some violent jerk or a studied cultural commentator? [Exploding Actresses]
I think the title and this photo say it all, don’t they? Jackie from “Roseanne” — in all her baggy, acid washed, leather-fringed, horse print glory — has become something of an inadvertent hipster fashion icon, and there’s finally a Tumblr to document all the very serious young people who are copping her style. Amazing. [Tumblr via Refinery 29]
If you, like me, are deeply obsessed with “Game of Thrones,” then perhaps Tumblr A Game of Clothes is for you. Combining two of my fave passions––fashion and “GoT,” Game of Clothes offers up runway looks that wouldn’t be out of place in Westeros. Writes the unnamed keeper of the blog fire, “After watching the first season of Game of Thrones I had to read the books, and I loved the descriptions of outfits and locations through out the series so much, that I have collected what I think the characters of A Song of Ice and Fire would wear and live.” Keep reading »
Have you seen Google Glass yet? It’s the impossibly expensive ($1,500) new toy Google recently unleashed. What it is: An attachment one affixes to your eyeglasses that allows you to snap photos and record video with the blink of an eye. A sort of creepy, futuristic “Jetsons”-type gadget, Google Glass is basically like affixing a computer to your head. You can watch videos, record videos, take photos and browse the web, via the glass.
Consequently, nerdy guys love it. And because it’s currently only available on a limited basis, and just to the very connected, nerdy white Silicon Valley guys have been caught wearing their Google Glasses out on the town — and they look pretty funny. And thankfully, White Men Wearing Google Glass, a Tumblr devoted to chronicling the travels and travails of white guys with Google Glass affixed to their glasses, captures it all. Keep reading »
You would think we’ve perhaps come to the end of cat meme possibilities, but no, every time you think the Internet’s run out of cat ideas, someone goes and creates something like “Sports Balls Replaced With Cats,” a Tumblr which is dedicated to just that — taking pictures of athletes and Photoshopping kittens into their arms. Beefy athletic dudes cradling kittens? Yes, please. [Sports Balls Replaced By Cats]
Plus-size clothing has made some major strides in the past few years, but overall, its bad reputation is still well deserved: most brands for larger women seem to specialize in bat-wing blouses in garish floral prints and tragically pleated elastic waist jeans. Enter a Tumblr blog called “WTF, Plus Size Clothing Manufacturers?”, a collection of “the most heinous offenders” in the plus-size fashion world. A quick scroll-through will cause anyone who’s ever shopped in the plus-size department to laugh, nod with recognition, and possibly cry. Submissions are welcome, so next time you stumble across a leopard print drawstring maxi skirt in the super clearance section of your favorite plus-size website, feel free to share the link and call them out.
