“True Blood” Recap: Erik Cries. A Lot.

Yesterday I enjoyed three of the things I missed the most while I was in Costa Rica (to be honest, the list isn’t much longer than that) — my dog Lucca, a big ol’ breakfast burrito from my favorite brunch joint, and “True Blood.” I caught up on last week’s episode first (Annika did a killer recap), which should have been called “Hoytsica & The Never-Ending Hymen.” Jessica is eternally a virgin! How awesomely strange is that?! Last night’s episode was just as thrilling — Hoyt continued to prove that he’s the most evolved man in all of Bon Temps, Mary Ann continued to spread her black-eyed craziness in her hunt for Sam, Jason “Action” Stackhouse kicked Preacher Steve’s ass, and Lafayette proved that gay men in eyeliner aren’t to be f**ked with. Sookie continued to be a pain in the ass (though she had one good line, telling Jason to use his brain instead of “letting it take up space in your skull”), Bill was a little less wimpy than usual, and Erik continued to dominate, tricking Sookie into drinking his blood, resulting in her having sexual fantasies about him.

You wouldn’t expect it, but “True Blood” has become a bit of a tearjerker. When Godric decided that his vampire existence must come to an end and stood in the sun, evaporating into a burning vortex with the help of totally ’80s special effects, I welled up. I didn’t, however, blubber as much as Erik, whose mourning for his maker was positively heartbreaking. It’s a good thing we got to see his naked vampire viking ass in the flesh, because otherwise, he might have lost some manly points for that display. Clip above! Keep reading »

“True Blood” Recap: Tara And Eggs Get Some Heart

The folks at HBO seem to outdo themselves with every “True Blood” episode and last night’s was no different. Basically, it was all about rescuing Sookie and Godric, who didn’t really need any assistance, from the Fellowship of the Sun people, and Maryann continued her domination over Tara and Eggs. “True Blood” Recap: Godrick Saves The Day!

Last night’s episode of “True Blood” was mega exciting. In a nutshell: Bill was stuck in a hotel room with his maker Lorena and we were treated to another flashback, though this one was less bloody and sexual. I wonder if, as time goes on, we’ll get to see flashbacks of all the vamps in different time periods. Aren’t you just dying to see what Eric looked like in the ’70s? I know I am! Tasty Tru Blood Beverage Coming To An Icebox Near You!

Last night, while I was watching “True Blood,” John Devore — who came over for dinner — remarked, “They really need to market the ‘Tru Blood’ synthetic blood beverage in real life.” Hm. That would be cool. After all, when promoting the first season, HBO had a series of ads that focused on the beverage, which is beloved by mainstreaming vamps who have “come out of the coffin” and no longer feed on humans.

So what do ya know? It was revealed at a “True Blood” panel at Comic-Con that HBO will be marketing a tasty “Tru Blood” beverage in the near future. Sadly, red wine is not what they have in mind. Instead, “Tru Blood” will be a “tasty blood orange soda.” Sounds like the perfect mixer to me! [YouTube] Keep reading »

“True Blood” Recap: Bill Compton Shows His Animalistic Side

On last night’s episode of “True Blood,” we finally got to see another side to Bill Compton, which had been hinted at, but never seen. Bill had always told Sookie that he wasn’t always such a gentile vampire, eager to mainstream. In a flashback scene that takes place in the ’20s, Bill and his maker/lover, Lorena, pretend to be French (hilarious!), Bill sings and plays the piano (even more hilarious!), glamor a couple into having a foursome with them, and then feed on the hapless lovers before screwing on a bed covered in blood. HAWT. Keep reading »

Why Is Stephen Moyer’s Ex On The “True Blood” Beat?

Yesterday The New York Post ran a profile on Stephen Moyer, who plays vampire Bill Compton on “True Blood.” According to Defamer, the paper failed to note that the interviewer, Lorien Haynes, is, uh, Moyer’s ex-girlfriend and baby mama. In a recent issue of Star, Haynes was revealed as Moyer’s ex and mother to his daughter Lilac in a piece titled, “‘True Blood’s Secret Love Triangle.” It quotes Moyer saying of their breakup, “Nobody has left anybody for anybody else.” Considering Moyer and his co-star Anna Paquin have made no attempt to hide the fact that sparks flew the moment they met on set, who knows how true that statement really is.

So while it’s majorly odd that Haynes profiled her ex for a story — and didn’t mention their relationship — it’s even weirder that she also interviewed Paquin for a story which ran in the Daily Mail U.K. yesterday as well. Seriously, why is Haynes on the permanent “True Blood” beat? Isn’t this a conflict of interest and also a wee bit psycho? [Defamer] Keep reading »

“True Blood” Recap: Jason Is Rewarded

On last night’s episode of “True Blood,” Lafayette returned to the grill at Merlotte’s, Sam and Daphne bonded over being shapeshifters (though we still don’t anything about its connection to her big scar), and Mary Ann moved into Tara and Sookie’s house because that big ol’ mansion she was living in? Not hers. Meanwhile, in Dallas, we found out why Eric is so concerned about finding Godrick — it turns out, Godrick is his maker! Also, Godrick is totally the world’s first twink. Sookie decided she’d have to infiltrate the Fellowship Of The Sun to find out if they’ve got Godrick, but little does she know that Jason is one of them now. In fact, Jason is in so deep, he got a handy from Sarah, the preacher’s wife, in the bathtub as a reward for being such a devoted soldier of God! Clip above. Keep reading »

“True Blood” And Other Shows We Can’t Believe Didn’t Get Emmy Nods

Mulling over the list of the 2009 Emmy Nominations released earlier today, I felt pretty good—Tina Fey and “30 Rock” pulled in 22 nominations, and “Mad Men” reeled in 16. “Lost,” “Flight of the Conchords,” “Weeds, “How I Met Your Mother”—they were all there. But I was flabbergasted to find that my beloved “True Blood” was nowhere to be found. I thought for sure this had to be a typo, but upon further inspection, I noticed a few other glaring omissions. After the jump, the categories we wish the Emmy folks would add so that all of our favorites walk out of the awards ceremony with a statue. Keep reading »
