Fall Must Haves: 12 Terrific Tweed Pieces

I feel the need … the need for tweed. God, that was awful, I’m sorry. But seriously, with fall weather comes my annual urges to adorn myself with tweed in every incarnation: dresses, pants, skirts, jackets, shoes. A touch of tweed will bring some dapper “Downton Abbey” vibes to your wardrobe, and as an added bonus, it’s such a sturdy material that it usually lasts forever. Here are 12 tweed pieces I’m currently lusting after…

NYFW Trend Forecast: Frisky Florals

Florals were everywhere this season but employed in a variety of ways. At Prabal Gurung, the flowers were bright and graphic, while Suno’s florals were muted and pale. And at Duro Olowu, the florals offered a cheery pop of color. Check out our gallery of some of our favorite floral looks and let us know what you think in the comments.

NYFW Trend Forecast: Cuckoo For Cutouts

Cutouts are a simple way to add a little sex appeal to an outfit. Which is probably why they were so prominent in the spring/summer 2013 collections presented at New York Fashion Week. From body-sculpting slashes and patterns, to more random and spontaneous marks, whether you prefer a peekaboo style, or a more geometric skin exposure, you can find it in the latest runway looks from designers like Alexander Wang, Victoria Beckham and Thakoon.

Trendspotting: 6 Brand-New Beauty Ideas From NYFW

When a designer strays outside the box of beauty stalwarts, it’s a refreshing change, given our steady diet of so-called “trends” — smoky eyes, red lips, dewy skin, and bold brows. These ubiquitous looks are beautiful and striking, but they’re also easy go-tos, which on principle renders them, well, kind of boring. But with each new season comes a fresh crop of innovative makeup looks that we guarantee you’ll see on the red carpet come 2013. Behold, the six top trends we’ve spotted on the catwalk this week…

According To NYFW, Black Is The New Black For Next Summer

Spring and summer fashion is generally pretty predictable insofar as it is, well, summery — think airy, diaphanous fabrics in light, muted colors accented by eye-catching brights, and you’ve just about hit the nail on the head every time. As the S/S 2013 shows crop up, we get a good glimpse at what to expect come next year … and is it just me, or is it all turning out to be a bit darker than usual? That’s not to say that the season’s requisite lightness, comparably more cheerful than that of Autumn/Winter styles, has been sacrificed in favor of deeper, moodier hues; it’s just that all of the whites and pastels are offset by a whole lot of black. I’m the last to complain — black is the predominate color in my wardrobe — so yes, I am unquestionably biased, but I think the contrast serves to make the clothes all the more striking. Are you, like me, thrilled that some of your favorite black pieces might just make the spring/summer cut, or are you all about the whites and brights come June, regardless of what the runway dictates? Must Haves: 10 Badass Boots For Less Than $100

I spent most of the long weekend curled up on my couch with a stack of September fashion magazines and a plate of cranberry orange scones (yes, it was heavenly), and I fell head over heels in love with this season’s crop of boots: they’re studded, strappy, slouchy, and they look seriously sexy with everything from flouncy dresses to ripped-up jeans. What I didn’t fall in love with were all the triple (and quadruple!) digit price tags, so I decided to search for some affordable alternatives. Click through to check out 10 badass boots that won’t break the bank, unless of course you buy all of them, which is what I plan to do…

Celeb Street Style Spotlight: Colored Denim

When stores started filling up with colorful jeans a couple years ago, I was pretty sure it would be a passing trend, but the look has stuck around, and you know what? I’m glad it has. Colored denim opens up so many new outfit possibilities, and can easily be dressed up or down. Looking for some inspiration to try the style for yourself? Can We Talk About Guys In Tank Tops?

Dude Looks: Bold Socks
There's nothing sexier than a well-chosen sock. Read More »

It’s officially September now, which means it’s time to reflect on how we spent the dog days of summer. Did you have a good summer? Did you make boozy popsicles? Did you smile broadly while wearing a sunhat the size of a Mini Cooper? If so, good work! Want to know what I did this summer? I saw a lot of men wearing tank tops and I had complicated feelings about it.

Seriously though, I think 2012 will go down in history as the Summer Of Men’s Tank Tops (SOMTT for short). I mean, men have always worn tank tops, but this year the trend really caught on, and suddenly sleeveless shirts became a totally legitimate clothing option for regular dudes, not just mega hipsters and Nickelback fans… Keep reading »
