I feel the need … the need for tweed. God, that was awful, I’m sorry. But seriously, with fall weather comes my annual urges to adorn myself with tweed in every incarnation: dresses, pants, skirts, jackets, shoes. Florals were everywhere this season but employed in a variety of ways. At Prabal Gurung, the flowers were bright and graphic, while Suno’s florals were muted and pale. According To NYFW, Black Is The New Black For Next Summer

Spring and summer fashion is generally pretty predictable insofar as it is, well, summery — think airy, diaphanous fabrics in light, muted colors accented by eye-catching brights, and you’ve just about hit the nail on the head every time. As the S/S 2013 shows crop up, we get a good glimpse at what to expect come next year … and is it just me, or is it all turning out to be a bit darker than usual? That’s not to say that the season’s requisite lightness, comparably more cheerful than that of Autumn/Winter styles, has been sacrificed in favor of deeper, moodier hues; it’s just that all of the whites and pastels are offset by a whole lot of black. I’m the last to complain — black is the predominate color in my wardrobe — so yes, I am unquestionably biased, but I think the contrast serves to make the clothes all the more striking. Are you, like me, thrilled that some of your favorite black pieces might just make the spring/summer cut, or are you all about the whites and brights come June, regardless of what the runway dictates? I spent most of the long weekend curled up on my couch with a stack of September fashion magazines and a plate of cranberry orange scones (yes, it was heavenly), and I fell head over heels in love with this season’s crop of boots: they’re studded, strappy, slouchy, and they look seriously sexy with everything from flouncy dresses to ripped-up jeans. Love It Or Leave It?

It’s officially September now, which means it’s time to reflect on how we spent the dog days of summer. Did you have a good summer? Did you make boozy popsicles? Did you smile broadly while wearing a sunhat the size of a Mini Cooper? If so, good work! Want to know what I did this summer? I saw a lot of men wearing tank tops and I had complicated feelings about it.

Seriously though, I think 2012 will go down in history as the Summer Of Men’s Tank Tops (SOMTT for short).
