Nope, I Do Not Accept Adidas Slides As High Fashion Accessories

High fashion Adidas Slides

Adidas slides have been the purview of college bros for decades now, the choice footwear for pairing with over-sized basketball shorts and visor caps. But of late, they’ve been making insidious inroads in the fashion world. Witness the style shoot above, for the brand Aitken Jolly: the knee-high athletics socks were bad enough, but the slides? You are taking it to a Next Level Awful place.

And Aitken Jolly aren’t the only ones: Fashionista spoke to Nonoo designer Misha Nonoo, who said, “I just thought the Adidas shower sandals really spoke to something that’s kind of l’air du temps.” Uh, what?

Fashion “experts” say that the renewed interest in Adidas slides goes back to high-end designer Phoebe Philo and her collections for Celine. “The clean lines and shape of the Adidas sandal are very much on point with where fashion accessories are going right now–the first example that comes to mind on a designer level is the Celine sandals in regards to shape and style,” said stylist Danielle Nachmani.

Style Stealer: Elizabeth Banks Is Ready For Spring

Here we have Elizabeth Banks modeling the perfect outfit for spring weekends: comfy chambray shirt, cuffed colored jeans, simple sandals, fabulous handbag, and ridiculously huge sunglasses. She wore this ensemble to the hair salon, but you could wear it to brunch with friends, wandering around the farmers’ market, thrift shopping, traffic court, or wherever else your weekend might take you. The best part? I found all the pieces for around $70 or less. Get the shopping details after the jump! Keep reading »

I literally squealed with glee when I saw this chalkboard manicure, and I was even more excited when I learned it wasn’t some exclusive runway design, but actually a nail art kit available at Sephora. You start with a matte black polish that’s like chalkboard paint for your nails (see also: Pinterest’s wet dream), then once that dries, add some colorful designs with one of the colorful chalk pens, and seal it with a clear top coat. Love. [$25, Sephora]

Will Beyoncé Succeed In Singlehandedly Bringing Back The Bellybutton Ring?

I couldn’t tell you why, exactly, but bellybutton piercings viscerally repulse me. I should probably preface that by saying that bellybuttons viscerally repulse me, and a crystal stud right up in there does nothing for the biological aversion I feel in regard to that weird spot. Navels are just so human, you know? Like, there was a bloody fucking cord in there that attached you to your mother, which is weird enough, and then you had to go and stick a Swarovski (if you’re fancy) in for good measure? Ugh!

But that’s just my opinion. Obviously not everyone shares this sentiment, because enough people have rocked bellybutton rings in the past (and present!) for it to have been a Thing. (My mother texted me a couple of weeks ago to ask me if she should get hers done with her fellow bellydancers, which, again, is ugh on so very many levels.) And now that Beyoncé‘s gone and flaunted her navel jewel in her new H&M ads (why, Bey, why?), do we think it will make a resurgence? Don’t they get all crusty and grimy and get stuck to your sheets and maybe cause infection? I don’t know, man. Would you be willing to give this very ’90s trend another go? [Refinery29]

Polka dot jeans have been popping up on all my favorite fashion blogs and stylish ladies I see on the street, and it’s causing me to have some pretty major polka dot jeans envy. I have a big move coming up, so I’m trying not to buy too many new clothes. What’s a trend-obsessed girl to do? Add polka dots to a pair of jeans I already own, obviously! I’m going to try this super easy DIY on a pair of denim cutoffs this weekend and think spring-y thoughts. Care to join me? [A Merry Mishap]
