Tyson Beckford Poses Nude With Transgender Model Ines Rau For OOB Magazine

Do you ever sit around and wonder, Hmm, what’s Tyson Beckford up to?  Me neither. But after I was reminded that henot Michael Fassbender, not Clive Owen — is the most attractive man in the world after seeing these photos from OOB magazine in France, I may ask myself this more often. Here is Tyson posing with transgender model, Ines Rau, who, according to ColorLines, is a 24-year-old French model of North African descent. And, um, a stone-cold fox.

After the jump, check out the NSFW version of Ines and Tyson’s hawt photoshoot:

Senate Passes The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) To Protect Gay & Trans Employees At Work

todays lady news
  • Great news! The Senate voted today to approve the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would protect LGBTQ workers from discrimination by their employers. It’s the first time-ever that ENDA, which has repeatedly failed in Congress, included protections for trans folks. The bill now heads to the House of Representatives. [New York Times]
  • Sexual assault complaints in the military increased by 46 percent during the last year to 3,553 total, the Pentagon has said.  In my opinion, this is probably due to the increased focus by Congress on sexual assault within the military. [Guardian UK] Keep reading »

5 Things To Know About The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) To Protect Gay & Trans Employees At Work

equal rights

Yesterday, the Senate voted to take up the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, a bill to ban employers from discriminating against LGBTQ workers or job applicants based on their sexual orientation or gender identity (i.e. being transgender).

This is the first time ever that ENDA, which has struggled in Congress for almost 20 years, includes protections for trans folks.  Workers are already protected by federal law from discrimination based on race, gender, religion and age.

The Senate is expected to vote on ENDA this week with bipartisan support. However, it still must work its way through the House of Representatives and faces some Republican opposition. Here are five things to know about this very important bill! Keep reading »

Trans Woman Banned From L.A. Gym’s Women’s Locker Room

todays lady news
  • Yanel Valenzuela of California told a gym trainer that she is a transgender woman, hoping to get an exercise routine tailored to her health needs. But instead, she alleges, the trainer shared that information with others and an L.A. Fitness manager barred Valenzuela from using the women’s locker room entirely. They realize she’s a woman and doesn’t belong in the men’s locker room, right? This is grossly discriminatory against trans folks and completely inappropriate.  [Queerty, Huffington Post]

Singer-Songwriter Matt Nathanson’s Video For “Kinks Shirt” Is A Must Watch

Singer-Songwriter Matt Nathanson's Video For "Kinks Shirt" Is A Must Watch
Watch The Video!

I’d never heard of singer-songwriter Matt Nathanson, let alone listened to his music, before his video for the song “Kinks Shirt” showed up on my Tumblr dashboard last night. If I’m being honest, his music is not really my jam — but this video, and its message, totally is. Nathanson is a straight (married!) guy, but in the video (which is directed by Bobcat Goldthwait), he plays a single dude who falls for a stripper in a Kinks band T-shirt — who, P.S., happens to have been born male. “It shows a couple who, let’s face it, most of society would label ‘freaks’ doing everyday things,” Nathanson told The Tampa Bay Times. “Being in love, like the way it should be, and the way it WILL be, once people get their heads out of their asses and stop being prejudiced.” Check it out above! Male Model Shane Lapper Retires, Relaunches Career As Female Model Chloe Lapper

Scouted in London at the age of 22, handsome redhead Shane Lapper launched a successful career as a male model*. And even though Lapper was employed as an aspirational standard of male beauty, he always felt something wasn’t right: “I think I was about seven when I realized I should have been born a girl. I have five sisters, and I’d watch them all dress up and put on make up and I’d be so jealous.”

As Lapper’s career took off, his suspicions that he was in “the wrong body” only intensified: “It just felt wrong.”

And so, Shane the male model became Chloe. Read more on The Gloss…

New York Times Asks If Teen Who Shot LGBTQ Classmate Was “Bullied” By “Flaunting”

lawrence king valentine road documentary

This week, HBO screened a documentary film, “Valentine Road,” about the 2008 murder of a 14-year-old boy, Lawrence King, by a classmate in Oxnard, California. King had been exploring his gender identity by wearing makeup and heels to school; he had told friends that he was gay and had asked 14-year-old Brandon McInerney to be his Valentine in front of other classmates. McInerney, who had a girlfriend, shot King in head during class in their middle school computer lab.

Heartbreaking. Inexcusable. And yet the New York Times’ film review by Neil Genzlinger actually dared to ask:

Was Mr. McInerney the one who was bullied, by Mr. King’s flaunting of his identity (including wearing makeup and heeled boots to school)?
