Trailer Park: “Morning Glory,” “Unstoppable,” “Tiny Furniture,” “Skyline,” “Cool It”

We’re getting to that fun part of fall when you’ve finally embraced the season and are about to enter Christmas lights and frigid cold territory. You’re going to have to go shopping for presents eventually and sometimes the movies are a good break from those T. Rex claws you get from lugging around too many bags in the cold. This week has a good mix of genres—so go out, see a movie, be merry and spike the cider while you’re at it. Keep reading »

Trailer Park: “Due Date,” “127 Hours,” “Welcome To The Rileys,” “For Colored Girls,” “Megamind”

You spent last week partying, so you might as well give your liver a break and take it easy this weekend. Plus, you’ve got to start training for Thanksgiving and popcorn is kinda like a packing-peanut-esque expander for your tummy! I’ve been “training” for months and can already eat two pies in one sitting, so you’ve got some competition. Perhaps equally important, though, is the fact that there are some really great movies coming out this weekend. Keep reading »

Trailer Park: “Saw 3D,” “Strange Powers,” “Monsters,” “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest”

I know it’s Halloween weekend and you’ve got costume parties to attend and sexy pirates to manhandle, but just in case you decide you need a break from all that teeth-rotting candy corn and ineffective fright tactics, you can always escape to the movies! Chances are, they’re probably going to be empty anyway except for the die-hard “Saw” fans. So now’s the perfect time to see “Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields” because it’s totally not Halloween-themed and if no one else is there, you can totally throw a little party and talk to the screen. There are other movies coming out too, but I care slightly less about those, so if you want to know more, keep reading! Keep reading »

Trailer Park: “Paranormal Activity 2,” “Hereafter,” “The Company Men,” “Inhale,” “Kalamity”

We’re just about a week away from Halloween and the creepy movies are back in spades. I guess that watching “Paranormal Activity 2″ would be cheaper than most haunted houses. And you don’t have to get any hay on your butt, if you don’t want to. Most of the other movies are about varying degrees of desperation. I guess this time of year lends itself to that kind of thing—wallowing in the dying bits before everything’s iced over and reborn. Or maybe I’m just projecting? Keep reading »

Trailer Park: “Red,” “Hereafter,” “Conviction,” “Jackass 3D,” “Marwencol,” “Carlos”

Every day closer to Halloween is another day that I avoid the candy aisles at the drug store so that I don’t end up passed out in a bed of 600 tiny wrappers, drooling chocolate. If you’re suffering from a similar pattern, there’s nowhere better to hide than a movie theater. But they’ve got candy there, you say? Well, hopefully that 400 percent mark-up is enough to deter you. With the exception of “Jackass 3D,” this week brought some pretty heady films to the table and, for the first time in weeks, no horror movies! So go forth and watch. Keep reading »

Trailer Park: “Life As We Know It,” “It’s Kind Of A Funny Story,” “Nowhere Boy,” “Secretariat”

I haven’t been everywhere, but I think it’s safe to say after all the bizarre weather patterns last week that it is finally fall now! It’s also that wonderful month when drug stores turn into creepy candy cornucopias and the movie theater is flooded with horror movies. This week, there’s actually a bunch of exciting movies coming out! In honor of what would be John Lennon‘s 70th birthday, his biopic, “Nowhere Boy,” is in theaters. There is also the “talk to your friends about the fact that you made them godparents” fable, “Life as We Know It.” We find love in a psych ward in “It’s Kind of a Funny Story.” And then there’s a prison movie (“Stone”), a horse movie (“Secretariat”), and two horror movies (“I Spit on Your Grave” and “My Soul to Take”). Now go to the movies! Bring some candy corn. God knows there isn’t enough corn in your diet. Brought to you by the American Corn Growers Association. Not really though. Keep reading »
