Obama Plays Daniel Day Lewis Playing Obama

"The accent took awhile."

Daniel Day Lewis is famous for really inhabiting his roles. On the set of his latest film, “Lincoln,” Lewis lived as Abraham Lincoln 24/7, and the same goes for his characters in ”There Will Be Blood” and “Last of the Mohicans.” So it makes total sense that in Steven Spielberg’s latest biopic, “Obama,” Lewis would really go overboard to play the president. So lifelike! [Mashable]

Call it an enigma wrapped in a mystery stuffed in a donut. “Community”‘s Donald Glover has signed up to play Young Tracy Jordan on an upcoming episode of “30 Rock.” Actually, it’s going to be during “30 Rock”‘s second-ever live episode, so that should be pretty exciting. Apparently, this isn’t Glover’s first go-around as Tracy. He also recorded “Tracy’s” voice on the full-length version of “Werewolf Bar Mitzvah.” Said producer Robert Carlock, “Tracy wasn’t available, so Donald came in and [performed the extra material],” he explains. “I don’t think you can tell. It’s pretty remarkable. All the spoken stuff is Donald doing Tracy.” The live episode will air April 26. [TV Line]

Tracy Morgan and Louis CK photo

Tracy Morgan said something wrong, evil, cruel, ignorant and hilarious. He was on a comedy stage, not a pulpit. It is clear to anyone with an ability to reason and understand people that he didn’t mean a word of what he said. He was fucking around. I think the opportunity that was lost was for the gay community to ask Tracy, ‘Why did you say that?’ and ‘What was your dad like?’ and ‘What is being a man mean to you?’ you know what I mean? It could have been a starting point of a conversation that might have actually made a difference in how people feel about homophobia.”

Anyone who loves Louis C.K.‘s standup or his amazing FX show “Louie” knows the comedian pushes the envelope of good taste yet always has a point when he does so. (For example, the joke about how if child molestations was considered “less bad,” child molesters wouldn’t kill so many children and might return them to their parents. Which is like … damn, you went there.) Louis C.K. has come to Tracy Morgan’s defense over the incident this spring when the “30 Rock” star joked on a Nashville stage that gay bullying is bullshit and if his own son was gay he would pull out a knife and stab him. I honestly, genuinely, don’t find any of that humorous, I can’t say that I agree with Louis C.K. on the humor aspect here. But he does have a point about about how having a conversation about homophobic jokes or attitudes — or sexist ones, or racist ones — is probably more useful than shrill shrieks for an apology. What do y’all think? [Queerty]

Tina Fey On Tracy Morgan’s Homophobic Jokes

tina fey photo

“Because of my real-life pregnancy, we don’t go back on the air until January. I’m hoping that Tracy will have, and the world will have, forgotten about that by then. He from the first has gone around very sincerely and done his best to try to make up for the foolishness. … It’s the kind of story that even if it happened to someone else, we would probably turn it into a Tracy story. So we may use it.”

Tina Fey talks to Deadline Hollywood about Tracy Morgan‘s homophobic jokes during his standup performance in Nashville in June. Tracy apologized almost immediately for the dreadful things he said — like how if his son came out to him as gay, Tracy would stab him — and Tina publicly chastised the comic as well for his “disturbing” jokes. Now she says the incident may be written into an episode of “30 Rock,” which certainly sounds like it would be believable. I’m not sure anything about it is especially funny, though. Do you think “30 Rock” doing an episode about homophobic jokes would be a good idea? [Deadline.com] Keep reading »

Tracy Morgan Apologizes Again, Speaks Out In Favor Of Gay Marriage

tracy morgan photo

“Of all the sicknesses, there is probably none more abusive than homophobia. My heart is committed to giving everyone the same rights that I deserve for myself. I don’t care if you love the same sex as long as you have the ability to love someone I am deeply sorry for the comments I made. What I am most sad about is the comments I made about kids and bullying. … I believe everyone deserves the right to be happy and marry who they want too; gay, white, black, male or female. Let me know where the rally’s at Russ. I’m there!”

Tracy Morgan, who caught major flack late last week for “joking” during a stand-up appearance that he would kill his son if he came out as gay, apologizes again for his actions in an interview with Russell Simmons at Global Grind. Morgan also seems interested in making amends with the gay community by not only speaking out in favor of gay marriage (and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell), but lending his support at rallies and other activist events. Personally, I hope Morgan’s apology is accepted, that he is taken up on his offer to work with gay rights causes, and that he actually follows through. Tina Fey said that the Tracy Morgan who went on that homophobic rant is not the Tracy Morgan she knows and I, for one, would like him to have the opportunity to prove it. Tina Fey Calls Tracy Morgan’s Anti-Gay Bigotry “Disturbing”

“I’m glad to hear that Tracy apologized for his comments. Stand-up comics may have the right to “work out” their material in its ugliest and rawest form in front of an audience, but the violent imagery of Tracy’s rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community. It also doesn’t line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person. I hope for his sake that Tracy’s apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian coworkers at “30 Rock”, without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket. The other producers and I pride ourselves on “30 Rock” being a diverse, safe, and fair workplace.”

Tina Fey released a statement responding to the news that Tracy Morgan made hateful comments about gays while performing stand-up comedy in Nashville on June 3. Morgan said gays needed to stop “whining” about bullying and that he would stab his son if he ever found he out was gay, among other nastiness. Do you think Tina Fey’s reponse — whether as executive producer of “30 Rock” or as his friend — was appropriate? Or do you think she could have come down a little more harder? Tracy Morgan Tells Gays To Stop Whining, Said He Would Stab His Son If He Were Gay

tracy morgan photo

Oh my. It sounds like someone needs a spanking from Tina Fey.

A man named Kevin Rogers took to Facebook after a Tracy Morgan standup show in Nashville on June 3 to share the disappointing news that Morgan is an unabashed bigot towards gays. Not like “ha, ha, gay dudes wear product in their hair” but real bigotry. TMZ reports that the audience booed Morgan and some people even walked out.

So what did he say that was so offensive? Keep reading »

Celebs Who Endorse Donald Trump For President — And The Ones Who Don’t

If Donald Trump seriously runs for president (which I don’t think will happen, but still) and gets so much as one single vote in the primaries, I am moving to Canada. No ifs, ands or buts about it. The man who popularized frou-frou pompadours on men, trashy divorces, and the phrase “You’re fired!” is like a one-man encyclopedia entry for the phrase “ugly American.”

Whaddya know, a lot of celebs agree with me: Susan Sarandon, Cher, Tracy Morgan. And then there are the yokels who would actually “Vote Trump!” And there’s quite a few of them… Keep reading »

Tina Fey’s Daughter Alice Writes Tracy Morgan’s Lines

I knew Tina Fey‘s five-year-old daughter Alice had badass swagger. But I didn’t know she writes Tracy Morgan’s lines! While promoting her memoir Bossypants on “Conan,” Tina revealed that the weird things that come out of Tracy Jordan‘s mouth on “30 Rock” were often the cute things that came out of Alice’s mouth first. I guess next season we can look forward to Tracy saying, “You know, the most romantic part of the human body is the butt.” [Team Coco via Huffington Post] Keep reading »

For The Record, Tracy Morgan Doesn’t Stuff His Pants

Tracy Morgan took a seat on the estrogen-soaked couch of “The View” yesterday. He and Sherri Shepherd have a special relationship since she plays his wife on “30 Rock.” While watching a clip of the sitcom where Tracy got to show off his revenge body, Sherri shared a little secret. “Every time he came out, he would stuff something in his pants,” she said. Tracy did not approve. “That wasn’t stuffed!” Tracy insisted. “No. No. That’s me. You know I’m magically delicious.” And it only got funnier from there. [Huffington Post] Keep reading »
