Tori Amos’ Cover Of “Creep” Is Pretty Much Amazing

Tori Amos
Gorgeous

Tori Amos covered Radiohead’s “Creep” at a concert in New York City last week, and it was totally kickass. Who knew a ’90s hit could have such staying power? The song is 22 years old now, and Radiohead rarely performs it anymore. Luckily for us, plenty of awesome artists have shared their own moving interpretations, and Tori’s is no exception. It’s Time To Cry: Tori Amos Duets On “Promise” With Her Daughter Natashya

"I Will Be There"

Who is ready to cry (and also FEEL OLD)? Here is the video for the song “Promise” off Tori Amos’ new album, Unrepentant Geraldines. This song is extra-beautiful because she duets with her 13-year-old daughter Natashya Lorien, who has a stunningly gorgeous voice of her own. Mother and daughter sing about promising to always being there for each other and never being alone. I won’t pretend I didn’t tear up (and then wonder how I didn’t know Tori had a kid!).

Activities are wonderful, but sometimes, it’s fine to want to shut the world out for a couple of days, and make some serious time for you. Don’t be afraid of FOMO, either. *** Fans Self ***

If you were a certain type of teenaged girl, your inner emotional landscape was set to a channel of all Tori Amos, all the time. As someone who still has deep emotional connection to Little Earthquakes, I’m already losing my shit over the first song from her new album. “Trouble’s Lament” is CLASSIC TORI and gives me hopes for her upcoming album, Unrepentent Geraldines, out on May 13. Give a listen: I think you’ll love it as much as I do. [YouTube]

tori amos happy birthday

Little Earthquakes, the album that rocked our teenage worlds, came out in 1992. Which makes us … old. And ot means we’ve officially been Tori Amos fans for more than two decades. Hers was roughly the third concert we both attended. It was the music that captured our souls (playing “Precious Things” on repeat opened up all sorts of possibilities for channeling our teenage angst), but it was her live show performance — a shock of orange hair straddling a piano bench– that solidified our life-long fandom. How deep does our love go? Julie once dragged her 15-year-old skater boyfriend to see Tori play and was devastated when he didn’t like it. For this very same reason, Ami began attending Tori concerts alone because “she didn’t want anyone to ruin it for her.” At one such concert, she ran into a former college classmate named Mario — you may know better now as Perez Hilton (but this was before he made his gossip blogger transformation) — who had also attended the Tori Amos concert alone for the same reason. On the occasion of her 50th birthday, two Tori fangirls (well, fanwomen now) break down how to live the Tori Amos lifestyle, which we’re constantly aspiring to. Keep reading »

(Another) Quote Of The Day: Tori Amos Thinks Lady Gaga Is A Meteor

“She’s what I call a meteor – singers who entertain people for a while. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that. But then there are people like Neil Young who show up at Glastonbury 40 years into their career. And that’s a very different kind of artist. Neil Young doesn’t have to get his bum out on stage! The question is, will Lady Gaga be playing alongside Neil Young at Glastonbury in 20 years time? She wants to entertain people. Right now, half the world is depressed and they need to be entertained. So her timing’s perfect.”

— Tori Amos telling us how she really feels about Lady Gaga. Yeah, well, I bet Gaga would rather be a meteor than a “Cornflake Girl”… [via The Sun] Keep reading »
