Topshop Opening Day Line Was Publicity Stunt

Topshop’s New York City opening was a popular event, but it wasn’t as popular as the long queue of impatient fashionistas would suggest. Topshop hired nightclub bouncer-esque security to limit the number of people who could enter the store at any given time, making the line grow longer and longer. In fact, sometimes it appeared that no one was in the shop, but people were still kept waiting in line. According to “Page Six,” it was all a publicity stunt. A few of us went to Topshop last Friday, nine days after the store opened on April 2, and we had to wait in line to enter the store. They were only admitting people in groups, and when we entered the shop we saw that it was crowded, not by people but by too many clothing racks filled with overrated, overpriced crap, not includinng Amelia’s sweet blue high-heels. Style Buzz: Michelle Obama’s New Yorker Cover, PETA Effs Up

  • Michelle Obama graces another cover — this time, The New Yorker‘s style issue. The mag pokes fun at the kerfluffle surrounding Michelle’s bare arms with three doodles of Michelle strutting down a runway, arms covered up! [Mrs. O]
  • PETA strikes again! The animal rights group ripped a sleeve on the Balenciaga gown worn by French Vogue editor, Carine Roitfeld, while aiming for her goat fur coat. I don’t condone assaulting people in public, but if you are going to go after someone, ruin the correct couture, at least. [Style.com]

Crave: Lace Beaded Topshop Jacket

Something about this lace beaded Topshop jacket is kind of Michael Jackson-y but we still think it would look pretty fierce over a few layers of Michael Stars tank tops, paired with tight jeans and high heels. It’s just white — never a good color for outerwear! — so don’t pick up any babies (or drunken hipsters) who
look like they’re gonna puke. [$170, Topshop.com] Keep reading »

Crave: Topshop Baby Doll Dress

This dress, designed by Kate Moss, is equal parts sexy, flirty, and badass. It’s exactly what Beyonce meant when she coined the term “Freakum Dress.” The plunging neckline and short skirt will have all the boys drooling. You won’t even have to speak when wearing this dress because it speaks for itself: “We’re getting some tonight.” [$135, Topshop] Keep reading »

Crave: Topshop Maisie Satin Frill T-bar Ballet

The t-bar on these ballet flats gives them an old-school Mary Jane vibe, but the satin ruffles totally sex them up. You will live in these shoes because they can be worn with jeans, a T-shirt and a cardigan, but can also be dressed up with a pleated skirt and tie-neck blouse. The feminine details on these shoes aren’t the only things that make them special–they’re available on the Topshop’s U.S. website, which launched this week. [$50, Topshop]
