The 67th Annual Tony Awards were held Sunday night, with the inimitable Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Kinky Boots, the new musical from Cindy Lauper, based on the movie of the same name, took home six awards, and Pippin was named best musical revival. I am not a fan of thespians (So showy! So attention-starved! So jazz handsy!) so the Tony Awards are basically my glitter-glue covered nightmare. Still! The fashions were on point. Above, we take a look at some of the best and worst dramatic thespian fashions.
The Tony Awards were last night, and Once was the big winner, taking home eight of the 11 awards it was nominated for, including Best Musical. Audra McDonald, who stars in Porgy and Bess, won top honors as Best Actress — her fifth Tony award. Peter and the Starcatcher received five awards, and Clybourne Park won Best Play.
But what were they wearing? That’s really the question, right? Let’s find out.
I would like to make a case for Neil Patrick Harris hosting, well, every awards show ever. Last night, he helmed the 2011 Tony Awards. Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s “Book Of Mormon” cleaned up, taking home nine awards over the course of the night—but that wasn’t the spectacular part. No, the highlight was Neil’s awesome musical numbers. Above, catch the opening song, in which Neil hilariously welcomes straight people to the theater. “Because Broadway has never been broader/ It’s not just for gays anymore,” he sings before busting out the best line ever, “We’re asking every hetero to get to know us better-o.” The whole number turned out awesome aside from Brooke Shields‘ strange flub.
Oh, and if you didn’t watch the full show, no worries—at the end, Neil did an awesome rap re-capping all the winners and events of the night. Watch it after the jump. Keep reading »
Catherine Zeta-Jones has apologized after her Tony win for Best Actress in “A Little Night Music.” Jones isn’t sorry that screen actors swept the awards, but instead for the crassness of her acceptance speech. If you didn’t see it, the speech was a normal mix of surprise, modesty and frantic name listing, while trying to beat the walk-off music. As the orchestra began to swell, she blurted out to hubby Michael Douglas, “See that man over there? He’s a movie star, and I get to sleep with him every night.” Keep reading »
When I heard actor Sean Hayes was going to host last night’s Tony Awards, I wondered whether he would address that homophobic Newsweek article, which claimed that gay actors are incapable of playing straight characters convincingly. Oh, he addressed it. Check out the clip above, in which Hayes plants an extremely passionate kiss on his “Promises, Promises” co-star Kristin Chenoweth. Boing! Keep reading »

This Sunday, the Broadway revival of the sexy ‘60s musical “Hair” is up for eight Tony Awards. You know they must be doing everything right! So, we decided to ask the hottest hippie in the show, young stud Theo Stockman, all about free love, pubic hair, and what it was like to shove his crotch in the face of “American Idol’s” Adam Lambert.
