Today's Lady News photo
  • A North Carolina ministry has been hit with a sex-discrimination complaint after it was found that it provides job training services in fields like truck driving and culinary arts only to men. The alleged job training  for women includes Bible study, yoga, art therapy — here’s the kicker —and knitting. All of these are truly helpful skills for the job search. The best part is that the Asheville Buncome Community Christian Ministry receives federal funding for this! [Think Progress]

Doctors Must Inform Women Of Nonexistent Abortion-Suicide Link, Court Rules

Today's Lady News photo
  • Doctors in South Dakota must inform women of a nonexistent link between having an abortion and a risk of suicide, a federal appeals court has ruled. The ruling pertains to a 2005 law that will require doctors to tell a woman before her abortion that “the abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being,” and inform her of the “statistically significant risk factors” such as the “increased risk of suicide ideation and suicide.” Except that risk doesn’t exist. I believe that is called a “lie.” [Wall Street JournalRaw Story]

  • “The Office” actress/writer Mindy Kaling is so over this “Are women funny?” conversation. (As am I.) While speaking to the Television Critics Association, Kaling was asked about recent pay-attention-to-meeeee comments by “The Man Show”‘s Adam Carolla that women just aren’t as funny as men. “Anything about putting into question whether women are funny or funny writers, I can’t comment on because it’s just so ridiculous,” Kaling responded. “It kind of keeps the argument alive. I said in my book, it’s like a nonsensical argument that we choose to keep alive by commenting on. It’s just beneath everyone by having it be a debate.” Damn straight! [The Wrap]
