  • Women who have been on the birth control pill for 10 or more years have cut their risk of ovarian cancer by 45 percent, according to a study in the British Journal of Cancer. [Guardian UK]
  • The bus company that operates Brooklyn’s B110 bus line, which runs through the borough’s Hasidic Jewish neighborhood where unrelated men and women are strictly separated, sent a letter to the Department of Transportation after news broke that women were asked to sit in the back of the bus.   • A new report on so-called “crisis pregnancy centers,” which masquerade as women’s health clinics but are really focused on dissuading women from having abortions, found that “one Jewish investigator who posed as a pregnant woman was told at five centers she wouldn’t go to heaven unless she converted to Christianity and that one volunteer challenged her to become a ‘born-again virgin.’”  And these groups get our tax dollars!   • Wannabe GOP presidential contender Herman Cain bragged that he would sign an anti-abortion constitutional amendment into law. Too bad for him that presidents don’t sign amendments to the Constitution. San Francisco is taking the lead from other cities across the country, like Baltimore and New York City, that are cracking down on CPCs that mislead women into thinking they are similar to abortion clinics or women’s health centers.   • An FBI subcommittee voted unanimously yesterday to change the official definition of “rape” so it includes a broader range of rapes other than just “forcible” ones against women. The existing definition did not encompass rapes committed against men or rapes that were not physically aggressive, such as those committed after slipping roofies in a person’s drink.
