Leggings, Yoga Pants Banned From Middle School Because They Are "Too Distracting For Boys"
  • Haven Middle School in Evanston, Illinois, has banned female students from wearing leggings, shorts and yoga pants, allegedly because the clothes are “too distracting for boys.” Sigh, and body policing and the “Are Leggings Pants?” debate continues. Some grown men can’t handle yoga pants, either. Maybe President Obama should issue an executive order banning them entirely? [Evanston.Patch.com]

Unequal pay is your fault because you didn’t negotiate well enough. [Huffington Post]

Judge Strikes Down Arkansas’ Ban On Abortion After 12 Weeks

todays lady news
  • A federal judge stuck down part of an anti-abortion “fetal heartbeat” law in Arkansas which would ban abortions after 12 weeks. Instead, the judge said that fetal viability should determine the legality of abortion. The other part of the law which requires doctors to perform an ultrasound and notify if the pregnant woman if her fetus has a heartbeat will still remains. [LA Times]

Former Model Charlotte Waters Outs Herself As Terry Richardson’s Alleged Victim

You can read parts of her Reddit post here and the full interview on Vocativ, in which reveals that she has spoken with the NYPD about the incident (although she declined to press charges). [Vocativ]
  • Missouri’s state House of Representatives advanced an anti-abortion bill to triple the waiting period for an abortion — to three days total. Such bills are horribly detrimental to low-income women and women who need to travel long distances for abortion care because it requires them to take more time off work, find more childcare and find a place to stay. Both Utah and South Dakota have three-day waiting periods as well. [ABC News] Keep reading »

Lily Allen Battles Blogger Over Feminism Comments

Lily Allen Battles Blogger Over Feminism Comments
  • Lily Allen got in a Twitter dispute with a blogger from Holy Moly, after she took the pop star to task for saying she doesn’t understand why feminism exists anymore and “I don’t think men are the enemy. I think women are the enemy.” Lily Allen reacted defensively, accusing writer Becca Day-Preston of misunderstanding her and using her quotes out of context. FWIW, I think Lily Allen is fairly feminist and don’t blame her for critiquing mainstream feminism — I just think she just went about it the wrong way here (and has similarly mishandled gender/racial issues in the past).
