Tilda Swinton is not a mere mortal. You think she’d be caught dead in a regular trench coat or something? No way. That’s why we’re totally not surprised she wore this Valentino Couture coat to a press conference for her new movie, “Snowpiercer.” On the one hand, the colors and fabric look incredible. On the other … the fit is a bit too “I wore my housedress out-of-doors.” What do you think?

Tilda Swinton, you guys. Is there anyone better? In between laying in boxes at the Museum of Modern Art and starring in David Bowie videos, she starts dance parties. Here she is at Roger Ebert’s Film Festival in Champaign, Illinois, encouraging the audience to get up outta their seats and dance to Barry White’s “You’re the First, the Last, My Everything.” Yup, it’s pretty clear: Nobody’s having more fun than Tilda. Tilda Swinton is kind of my hero. First of all, she is an astounding actress. Secondly, she makes seriously daring fashion choices and does avant garde androgyny better than, like, anyone. Third, this hot wooly man is her boyfriend. His name is Sandro Kopp, he’s a German-born artist and sometime actor, they’re been together for years, and, oh yeah, he is 18 years younger than Tilda. Get. It. Girl.
It’s all-too-common to see a famous man with a much younger woman on his arm, so I can’t help but revel for a moment in the thrill of seeing Tilda strolling arm-in-arm with her sexy younger beau. And why stop there? These eight other famous women have seriously sexy younger lovers on their arms too…
Our love for Tilda Swinton knows no bounds, which is why we’re prepared to ditch everything the minute we hear the actress has resumed napping in a glass box at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art. The “live performance” titled “The Maybe” was first staged at the Serpentine Gallery in London in 1995, with subsequent performances in Rome and Paris; Sunday’s performance at MOMA was a surprise to visitors and some museum staff, but MOMA higher ups have apparently been working with Swinton and bringing “The Maybe” to the museum for years. Said the museum about the piece:
An integral part of The Maybe’s incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist’s statement released, no no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued. Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real—shared—time: now we see it, now we don’t.
Do you like androgyny? David Bowie? Tilda Swinton? Then you’re going to love this new Bowie video featuring all that and more. The incomparable Tilda and David star as a settled older couple who are rocked by their young, androgynous David Bowie Motherfucker neighbor. “The Stars (Are Out Tonight),” directed by Floria Sigismondi, takes a poke at the idea of Bowie as the aging, settled rock star. David, Tilda, we will love you forever. [YouTube]
I love Tilda Swinton in all her strange, beautiful, androgynous, crazy-outfit-wearing glory, but I have to say I also like this version of Tilda: simple, streamlined, pretty. And I never thought I’d write this sentence, but Tilda’s outfit here is totally flattering and wearable–it would be a great choice for a hot summer day at the office. After the jump, we’ve got all the pieces to recreate her chic Cannes ensemble… Keep reading »

The kitten, the kitten is out of control. Out of control!!! The kitten is terrorizing Tilda Swinton! Will you do nothing about the kitten? [Boing Boing]
No one in my book club is having children after last month’s selection: We Need To Talk About Kevin, by Lionel Shriver. It’s a novel about Eva, a successful travel guide writer who is ambivalent about getting pregnant and ends up giving birth to pure evil. No, it’s not like “Rosemary’s Baby” with a literally evil child: her son Kevin is psychopathic and Eva realizes it, but her husband is completely oblivious. So Kevin grows up, tormenting and terrorizing the people around him, until one day as a teenager he commits a heinous crime that will leave your blood cold. It’s an amazing book that I highly recommend reading. So I can’t wait for the film version in theaters early next year, starring Tilda Swinton as the mom, John C. Reilly as the dad, and Ezra Miller as Kevin. The trailer is absolutely chilling, so I can only imagine how disturbing the actual movie will be. [YouTube]
