Oprah said Bootights will revolutionize your closet, and we can’t agree more. This special legwear eliminates the need to wear socks over your tights because the sock is built right in. But no one will see your socks when you wear ankle, mid-calf, knee-high, or over-the-knee boots. Bootights are available in a variety of colors and textures, so your style doesn’t have to suffer. We’re happy not to suffer squished toes for warmth this winter.

When I first caught a glimpse of these fringe tights on the Neiman Marcus website, I was filled with conflicting emotions. On the one hand, it might be fun to put them on and do a little dance. On the other hand, they’re sort of awful-looking. Check out a comprehensive list of pros and cons after the jump … Keep reading »
Apparently, in October, Vogue ran a story that gave “practical advice on how to do as New Yorkers do — and dare to bare your legs this winter …” We’re not sure which NYC women they were talking about exactly, because as far as we understand this is a practice for crazy people. Now the U.K. version of Vogue is discussing how to transition this trend to winter, so you can stay bare-legged through February (we literally just got colder thinking about this). Their suggestions: cozy up with fur, look for skirts with longer hemlines, and lastly to “take tips from the seasoned experts in New York and in the North.” As to what these additional “tips” are, that’s left unanswered.
As you can probably guess, for us, this trend is met with a big, fat “why?” Barring super fancy events, we’d be reluctant to give up protection of the cold on any other day. What do you think of going tights-less in winter? A cool idea? Or an idea that’s literally too cool? [Vogue UK] Keep reading »
Ripped, shredded clothing — from leggings to T-shirts — is definitely in right now. I loved Carrie’s DIY holey T, and this weekend, my friend Lindsay showed up at her surprise birthday party wearing ripped magenta tights. When I asked her about it, she said the tights got caught on her bedpost a couple days after she bought them so she just went with it and ripped ‘em up more. She looked fabulous, but when it comes to buying stuff with holes in it already, I’m not so sure … Keep reading »
Who’s with us when we say that nude tights are just kinda … boring? And yet we definitely have days where we want a natural leg look, but a) don’t want to be freezing without pantyhose and b) don’t want to look like an ice skater or senior citizen. The solution? These quaint Forever 21 sheer tights that add a sexy garter-like printed detail above the knee, and are definitely not boring.
The first two things that come to mind when I think of fishnet tights are hookers and Halloween. These associations were challenged today when I saw a chic middle-aged woman in a beautiful knee-length dress — and nude fishnets. To my surprise, she looked downright elegant. The key, I learned, is to keep the rest of your look conservative. You want to look like a lady, not a lady of the night. Stay away from trendy jewelry and put on a pair of pearls or faux diamond stud earrings. While it’s still a little chilly to be wearing fishnets in place of tights in most parts of the country, putting on a pair that matches your skin color will ease the transition to bare legs as the weather starts to warm up. As we bask in the afterglow of couture fashion week, we can’t stop obsessing over Lagerfeld’s massively triumphant Chanel collection. Those classic, pastel suits — mousse pinks and baby blues and lavenders — looked as delicious as a bag of robin’s egg candies (or in this case, more like a box of macaroons from a French patisserie), the hair was beyond exquisite, and those silver tights put a young, futuristic spin on the house’s traditional tweed silhouette. We can only imagine how hard it will be to score a pair of those stockings, and who knows if they’ll even end up selling them or if they were made by someone else, but we’re totally inspired. While there are lots of dark gray sparkly tights out there, it’s a bit harder to locate a glittery silver pair. But the lurex tights I tracked down at online hosiery retailer Forward Edge look just about spot-on, no? Also, at $6.99, they couldn’t be further from couture prices. Keep reading »
If you’re anything like us, nothing, even the frigid temperature, can keep you from wearing your cute dresses. But lately our shins have been feeling a little frostbitten. That’s why we’re adding these fleece tights by Plush Foot to our underwear necessities. No longer will warm legs also mean itchy legs because, unlike wool tights, these are soft yet toasty. They’re also the most opaque tights we’ve ever come across. Fleece has finally found its place in the fashion world. [$35, Singer22.com] Keep reading »
On last night’s episode of “The Sing-Off,” eight a cappella groups were narrowed down to six, and vocals-only versions of songs by artists from Queen to Aretha Franklin were performed. While the focus of the show is on the singing, I couldn’t help but notice the coordinating outfits the groups wore. Some, like all-girl groups Noteworthy and Maxx Factor, put on the exact same ensembles. But the guy-girl groups mixed it up, wearing similar colors in different shades and styles. Keep reading »
