Lady Gaga Does Her Best “Derelicte”

Watch Video

Real talk: This Lady Gaga video for Thierry Mugler’s Spring 2012 collection is so out of control, so twitchy, and outrageously Le Fashion Video that it has to have been inspired by Mugato’s Derelicte collection. I mean it’s straight outta “Zoolander,” right? Gaga plays a weird diamond-toothed rave kid with a biiiiiiiit of a Mugler obsesh. [YouTube]

Thierry Mugler Designer is Not Fat-Phobic

“i know i should just leave it but … i really hate when writers just write whatever they want … ‘i dont work with fat people…’ why would someone say such a thing?! you dont need to be skinny to look gorgeous!!! heres another favourite picture i created for v magazine. dont believe everything you read on line please … GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES … ok. im going to stop … but one last thing. lol . just so you all know i just worked with beth ditto and also another iconic non-skinny person for the next issue of VMAN with steven klein so dont read everything you read on line – love you all”

– Thierry Mugler designer and Lady Gaga co-conspirator Nicola Formichetti, on statements published in W magazine claiming he is “anti-fat.” Formichetti took to his Facebook wall to deny the allegations, hence the last of punctuation etc. [Fashionista] Keep reading »

Crush Of The Day: Lady Gaga’s Tattooed Friend, Rick Genest

See that guy pictured with Lady Gaga in a still from her “Born This Way” video? That’s Rick Genest. And unlike Miss Gaga, whose face required two hours of make up to achieve the skeletal look, Mr. Genest’s face really looks like that. Because his face is tattooed that way. As in, permanently. That’s right, Mr. Skeletor over there has a perma-Halloween costume on, and he’s spent three years and $7,000 to make it happen. And I’m apparently not the only one who thinks he’s mega-hot. The Canadian model has been tapped by Thierry Mugler designer — and frequent Gaga collaborator — Nicola Formichetti, as his muse. Formichetti found Genest living on the streets in Montreal, where he was doing odd jobs to pay for his next tattoo, and now he’s walking in Mugler’s menswear shows. And for the record, just because he looks scary, doesn’t mean he isn’t a sweetheart. His mom says, “Within the family he is a very loving boy, he’s very respectful to us.” [Daily Mail] Keep reading »

Gaga Makes New Music for Mugler

Dying for new Lady Gaga? Sure you are. But if you want to hear new Gaga you’re going to have to score yourself a ticket to designer Thierry Mugler’s menswear show in Paris on Wednesday. Mugler designer Nicola Formichetti, who’s designed clothes for Gaga in the past, snagged the Mama Monster to be “musical director” of her show. Some say Gaga will offer up never-before-heard remixes from her new album, due out in May. We wish we could be there. [WWD] Keep reading »

Thierry Mugler’s New Fragrance, Womanity, Is Awesome

There are a lot of great perks that come with working for The Frisky. The hot tub cubicle. The male courtesans. The shirtless video messages from the Old Spice guy. Previously, I’ve written here about Thierry Mugler fragrances, of which I am a fan, so when a Mugler rep emailed me, asking, “Can we send you some samples of our new scent, Womanity?” I said, “Yes, please!” And so they did. What Fragrances Are You Wearing This Summer?

Summer’s here! The Frisky wants to know what new fragrances you’re wearing this summer. I’m wearing Angel by Theirry Mugler’s Sunessence Blue Lagoon. It smells like the beach, honey, vanilla, cranberry, and good times. Tell us what fresh fragrance you’re wearing this summer, and we’ll put your best suggestions together in a summer scent slide show with links for where to buy online, so everyone can enjoy. Sneak Peek: Rihanna’s New Video For “Rockstar 101″

Here’s 29 seconds from Rihanna‘s soon-to-be-released video for her new song, “Rockstar 101.” Alongside fashion-and-music peers Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga, Rihanna is rocking the latex look and wears a brilliant scarlet wig. It’s a little bit Thierry Mugler, a little bit Rachael from “Blade Runner,” and not at all ’80s hair band. I think Rihanna is great, and she looks terrific, but I wouldn’t mind seeing her in a music video where she does something other than rub her hands all over herself. Agree? Thierry Mugler To Launch New Fragrance: Womanity

The reclusive designer Thierry Mugler has emerged from the shadows to announce he will be launching his first fragrance in five years, and it’s called Womanity. We wrote about the Womanity website here previously, which rants on about the invisible bond between women, something, one imagines, that is supposedly embodied in this scent. According to WWD, “womanity” is “a made-up word meant to associate with femininity, humanity and city.” What any of those things have to do with each other, and why commodified feminism is being used to sell perfume, I don’t know. Personally, I’m a huge fan of Mugler’s fragrances — I wear Angel Rose and Alien on a regular basis — but I don’t need some pseudo-gender politics to get me to buy it. Reportedly, Womanity smells of figs and caviar, and it will be available online in June for $58 an ounce. [Styleist] Keep reading »

Fashion Man Thierry Mugler Launches Weird “Womanity” Site

French fashion designer Thierry Mugler has launched a women’s website called Womanity. We can’t quite understand how it’s supposed to function or what it’s supposed to promote—the content functions as a sort of user-generated tag cloud (well, a very visually-pleasing tag cloud), where people submit their interpretations of what “Womanity” is. The tagline, “The invisible bond between women,” seems to sum up the obtuseness of the project as Mugler projects his own vague explanation, saying, “I think that women should define the framework of Womanity.” As for the general inspiration behind it, he says: “I began by thinking about women of today, filled with incredible energy, who are all go, always on the move … It’s the energy of women. The energy of having children, the energy of raising them, the energy of handling them, the energy of giving, and on top of all that, the energy of playing, looking good, having fun and living, with joy, frankness and honesty.”

Energy. Women. Do you get it? What do you think? [Womanity.co.uk] Keep reading »

Beauty Test Drive: All We Want For Xmas Is A Little Bling

The holiday beauty gift sets are rolling out to stores and well, let’s just say some are better than others. This Thierry Mugler Alien combo, $75, is one of the former. There are plenty of Angel fans out there, but if you haven’t had the pleasure of smelling the lesser known Alien it’s a little tougher and, I think, chicer with a core scent of Moroccan jasmine and an effervescent (and surprising) tangerine top note rounded out with white amber and Kashmir wood. In short, it’s the perfect winter fragrance, it smells absolutely delicious, and I’ve been spritzing it on before dinner which makes me feel terribly glamorous. This season, they’re selling this limited-edition, Swarovski bedazzled, 30ml refillable container served up with a side of gold wax that’s perfect to use as a highlighter for your cheekbones and décolleté. Yum. [Thierry Mugler] Keep reading »
