I often have memory loss, except it’s not due to a car accident as it is for Rachel McAdams’s character, “Paige,” in the soon to be released movie “The Vow”; mine is voluntary. When my husband, Neil, and I had a few chinks in our newlywed armor, we decided to enlist a little help getting past what ailed us and found a marriage counselor who practiced short-term couples therapy. Dr. Get Right To The Point laid it out: decide if you really want to be in the relationship. If so, accept the reality that couples fight, disagree, annoy each other from time to time and generally piss each other off. Then, develop amnesia.
Neil got on board from the get-go, as he’s not much for grudge holding. “A waste of time and energy,” he called it. But the therapist clearly had no idea with whom he was dealing when it came to me. Not only did I have a memory like a steel trap, I held on to every infraction, cruel word and perceived slight with a vice grip. After the jump, how I learned to forget to save my marriage. Last night, celebs turned out for the premiere of the new Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams movie “The Vow.” For some reason Rebecca Black was there? Check out her outfit and the rest of the cast’s hits and misses in the slideshow above!
It should come as no surprise that I am stupidly excited for “The Vow,” the latest Nicholas Sparks-esque [Thanks to the commenter who caught my error! -- Editor] romance starring Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum. Based on the trailer, “The Vow” looks like almost everything I loved about “The Notebook” (Rachel McAdams! Memory loss!), minus he who I am not allowed to name, plus everything I loved about “Dear John” (Channing Tatum! Attention sappy movie buffs! Check out the newly released trailer for “The Vow.” The romantic drama centers on Paige (Rachel McAdams), who loses five years of her memory following a terrible car crash. In her amnesiac state, she has no recollection of her present marriage to Leo (Channing Tatum), and believes she’s still engaged to ex-fiance Jeremy (Scott Speedman) from years before. And so the classic formula begins: boy loses girls heart via traumatic means … boy must win her heart all over again! Rachel McAdams, swoon. Channing Tatum, pure sex. “The Vow” … eh. It looks as though it’ll have the quality of “Dear John” mingled with a dash of the plot from “50 First Dates.” We’ll probably end up seeing it because we love Rachel, and let’s face it, having her play the lead in a Nicholas Sparks-written romance reminds us of “The Notebook”‘s Allie and Noah all over again!
