Rooney Mara dedicated her entire being to the part of Lisbeth Salander for the filming of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” She even went so far as to really get her nipple pierced. “I’m naked quite a lot in the movie, and I thought, she has [a nipple piercing] in the book, and she should have it [in the movie] … Because of all the tattoos and the makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked … It just felt like a good one to get — a necessary one to get,” she told Allure of her decision to go through with the piercing. I wonder if she’s planning to keep it? Click through to see more celebs with naughty piercings. [Daily Mail UK]
I have a bit of a girl crush on Rooney Mara, the star of the American adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” And I am especially loving how her style has evolved in just a few years from girly and soft to dramatic and chic. Here are my favorite looks from both periods.
Probably the biggest movie this holiday season? Unquestionably “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” And as such, its star, Rooney Mara, is on the brink of major mega stardom. Her dystopian take on Lisbeth Salander, shaved eyebrows, piercings, tattoos and all — has become the talked about look this season, and is already being reflected on some runways. But what might the movie — and Lisbeth — been had she been played by other well-known actresses? Say, Scarlett Johansson (a blonde Lisbeth?) Or Keira Knightley (a highbrow British Salander)? The ladies of the blog But You’re Like Really Pretty re-imagined Ms. Dragon Tattoo as such. Take a look. [But You're Like Really Pretty]
I poured through Stieg Larsson’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo book series in, like, three weeks, utterly captivated with the compelling story line(s), complex characters, and great writing, somewhat of a rarity for page-turning beach reads. Most of all, I was obsessed with the character of Lisbeth Salander, the unlikely heroine of Larsson’s trilogy. Tough as nails, emotionally guarded, and utterly brilliant, with dozens of piercings and tattoos, Lisbeth is a victim turned warrior. I am excited to see Rooney Mara make the character her own in the American film adaptation of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,” which hits theaters Dec. 21. (Check out an exclusive photo from the film, above!)
In Lisbeth’s honor, here are 12 other kick ass female film and TV characters and the women who played them.
Calling all Stieg Larsson fans! Check out the new Funny Or Die video, “The Girl With The Tramp Stamp Tattoo.” Doe-eyed Emma Roberts stars as a trashy, lush version of Salander (complete with a “Breathe” tramp-stamp) and “True Blood” hottie Joe Manganiello plays a bespectacled Blomkvist. For all those unfamiliar with Manganiello, a Google search of “Joe Maganiello shirtless” is required. You can thank me later. [Funny Or Die] Keep reading »
If you want to channel you inner bad ass, computer hacker this Halloween, there’s really no character more fitting than Lisbeth Salander, the inky heroine from The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series. We encourage you not to harm anyone while wearing this costume, well, unless they deserve it. The “Wasp” approves of vigilante justice when necessary. Find out how to get Lisbeth’s look after the jump. Keep reading »
I must admit, I’ve been skeptical about the forthcoming American movie version of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” I sucked down Stieg Larsson’s series last summer and thought the Swedish films did a fabulous job translating the books to screen — so what’s the point of another director and cast redoing what has already been done so well? But I might be changing my tune after seeing this just-leaked red band trailer for David Fincher’s American adaptation, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. It looks awesome
. I especially love the music — Karen O covering Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” Hot. Are you psyched for the film or do you think an American version is unnecessary? (FYI, this red band trailer is NSFW.) Keep reading »
The search for Lisbeth Salander is over. Actress Rooney Mara has allegedly been cast as the heavily pierced and tattooed protagonist in David Fincher’s film adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. She will no doubt go on to play the role in two additional films based on the latter two books in the trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest. She joins a cast which already included Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgard, and Robin Wright, having beat out actresses like Natalie Portman, Carey Mulligan, and Ellen Page. Keep reading »
