The Bachelor: Shutter Island!

Were you aware that Playboy.com made their own little videos? I wasn’t, but I’m paying attention now, after seeing this clever mash-up of the trailer for Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island” featuring some of the bunny boilers from “The Bachelor.” Keep reading »

Was Ali’s Exit A Shocker—Or A Strategy?

Lots of folks were very surprised last night when, after a New England hometown date full of rolling around in leaves and saying things like “If you asked me today, I would say yes,” Ali decided to leave “Bachelor” Jake and head home to San Francisco. Evidently, her boss gave her an ultimatum—come back now or say goodbye to your job. Ali basically begged Jake to say she’d be getting the final rose, in which case she’d stay, but instead he said, “Life is about minimizing your regrets. You just have to weigh which one is going to be a bigger regret.” So has Ali truly thrown in the towel? No way. She just guaranteed herself the win. During last season of “The Bachelorette,” I shared with you a foolproof way to win a dating show: leave. You pull the rug out from under the show’s protagonist, making them realize just how much you mean to them and making them doubt their connection with every other contestant. Then come back and explain just how wrong your decision was—how you can’t live without said person—and, automatically, you’re in like Flynn. Hey, it worked for Ed Swiderski, and it worked for London on “Daisy of Love.” Do we think for a second Ali won’t be back? Please. Keep reading »

Let’s hope I have better luck with liveblogging this week, as now that the Blachelor has narrowed the ladies down to his final four, it’s time to hit the hometowns! By the looks of last week’s preview, things get even more shocking — for the first time ever, there is NO ROSE CEREMONY. OMG. See ya at 8 pm EST! Keep reading »

Liveblogging “The Bachelor” February 1st 2010

The Grammy Awards were so yesterday. Tonight is all about “The Bachelor.” Who will Bachelor Jake get rid of next, after ninja-dissing Ella, Katherine, and Ashleigh last week? There’s only a few more ladies left! Meet me back here at 8 p.m. (EST). Keep reading »

“The Biggest Loser” Has A Better Track Record Than “The Bachelor”

In case you haven’t heard, there are wedding bells ringing over at “The Bachelor” camp. Since actual nuptial news from the show only rolls around once every … OK, only once ever, listen up: Jason and Molly are gonna tie the knot on March 8. And in true “Bachelor” fashion, they’re sharing their intimate ceremony with the whole nation. In 13 seasons of “The Bachelor” and five of “The Bachelorette,” they are only the second couple to make it down the aisle. And, uh, these two could only be described as dysfunctional—remember when Jason ditched his first-choice fiancée for Molly?—so who knows if they’ll actually say “I do.” That’s not such a hot track record for a show dedicated to finding the one.

I’ve never gotten into “The Bachelor.” But interestingly, there exists another reality show that I do watch regularly which has nothing to do with dating yet has a much better couple success ratio. This wondrous show is known as “The Biggest Loser.” Keep reading »

Liveblogging “The Bachelor” January 25th 2010

It’s raining, it’s pouring, and I don’t give a crap because “The Bachelor” is on tonight! Who will Jake continue to woo, despite being the most boring Bach in the history of EVER? And will the show, which has been surprisingly enjoyable, start to be a snore now that Michelle is gone? Let’s hope one of these other chickadees reveals her inner bunny boiler during tonight’s episode, which starts at 8 pm EST. Let’s enjoy it together, shall we? Keep reading »

Quotable: “Bachelor” Matt Grant Dug A Producer, Too

“There was one person on the show I really fancied, and she was a producer, who was absolutely awesome, but wasn’t, unfortunately, a participant on the show. [The producers] saw the chemistry between this person and myself and kept us apart. It’s cool, they have a business to run, they have a job to do, they have children to feed. They’re good people … I wish that, if you fancy one of the crew members, you can swap them out with a cast member. I really liked that producer, but now she’s really happy with someone else, unfortunately. It sucks.”

“The Bachelor” Is About To Get Horribly Juicy!

If you thought we’d already seen “the most shocking rose ceremony ever!” on this season of “The Bachelor,” think again. Rozlyn Papa has already gotten the boot for an alleged affair with a producer, and bunny-boiling Michelle left before the rose ceremony because she and Bachelor Jake Pavelka couldn’t get past her total crazytown-ness in order to build a connection — but things are going to get even more dramatic as the season goes on. The Bachelor told Us Weekly that the best is yet to come. “Horrible. Awful. On a scale of one to 10, it nears a 10,” Pavelka told the mag, saying it created “devastation” for him. “It is juicy now. It is going to get a lot juicier.”

Jake’s characterization of this event confuses me. What could be both horrible and juicy? A contestant getting cancer is horrible; a contestant finding out she’s pregnant is juicy. After the jump, I hypothesize about what the hell might happen to make the world’s most boring “Bachelor” also the most, gulp, entertaining … (Warning: This post will contain possible spoilers.)
