First Look: “The Romantics,” Starring Katie Holmes, Anna Paquin & Josh Duhamel

A few years ago, Katie Holmes was showing such acting promise — critics loved her in “Pieces of April,” though her wooden showing in “Batman Begins” didn’t win her any new fans. Still, before marrying Tom Cruise and having baby Suri, Holmes was transitioning her success on the small screen (on “Dawson’s Creek”) into major roles on the big screen. Then she dropped out of the next “Batman” — at Cruise’s behest — starred alongside Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton in the stinker “Mad Money,” and tried her hand at Broadway to mixed reviews. So when I heard she would be starring in the movie adaptation of the book The Romantics alongside Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Elijah Wood, Malin Ackerman, and Candace Bergen, well, I got kinda psyched that Holmes might getting back on the right track. By the looks of the preview, I might be right — it looks fantastic. Gawker suggests this could be Holmes’ “Rachel Getting Married,” though they doubt it will make critics and audiences take her seriously as an actress, like the latter did for Anne Hathaway. J.Crew Gets Romantic

Here’s an interesting twist on movie wardrobes and retailer catalogues. For the upcoming film, “The Romantics,” it seems the fashion stylist went a little crazy at J.Crew and outfitted the wardrobe closet with a massive amount of the brand’s offerings. Crew Addict] In a sign of appreciation, not to mention a great marketing strategy, J.Crew decided to become a little bit creative and hired a new set of models for their Fall 2010 catalogue — in the form of the film’s celebrities. Malin Akerman, Josh Duhamel, Anna Paquin, Adam Brody, and Katie Holmes got together yesterday to pose for the upcoming catalogue, promoting not only J.Crew, but also their new film, which comes out later this year. Why Are We Posting A Photo Of Some Preppy People Doing Nothing Of Interest?

Good question! Allow me to explain. This foursome — some chick who was not credited in the photo notes, Anna Paquin, Jeremy Strong, and Katie Holmes — are part of the cast of “The Romantics,” a movie currently shooting in Long Island. This is of interest because I am reading the book, The Romantics by Galt Niederhoffer (which I bought simply because I loved the cover), and it’s totally awesome, so I’m psyched they’re making a movie, even if Mrs. Tom Cruise is in it. (She’ll be balanced out by Adam Brody, who is hot and also in the movie along with Malin Ackerman, Elijah Wood, and Josh Duhamel.) The story “revolves around eight friends from college who reunite for a wedding. Holmes plays Laura, the maid of honor to Paquin’s Lila, the bride. Laura and Lila are best friends who both have a past with the groom (Duhamel).” Lila, FYI, is kind of an entitled bitch, which makes this tale even juicier.
